Workers must demonstrate proficiency in both manual and mechanized tasks related to fruit production, including pruning, harvesting, and orchard maintenance. Familiarity and safe use of orchard ladders (up to 12 feet) is essential. Workers must be able to stand, walk, and work on their feet for extended periods. Must be capable of lifting and carrying up to 60 lbs regularly during harvest. Work may be performed on the ground, on ladders, or on motorized platforms, depending on the task. A demonstration period will be provided to ensure understanding of job specifications and proper techniques. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times when required. Clothing and footwear must be season-appropriate, durable, and closed-toe for safety. The work environment is strictly drug- and alcohol-free. Workers must not report to work or be on the premises under the influence of any controlled substances, including marijuana. Training in apple and cherry trees using trellis systems: clip and tie limbs and shoots to wires, and position limbs for optimal growth. Care for young, non-producing trees by hoeing, weeding, painting trunks, hand fertilizing, and selecting growth by hand or clipping. Perform hand thinning of apple and cherry trees to manage fruit load. Conduct pruning and thinning from the ground, ladders, or platforms using tools such as pruning hooks, shears, and hand tools. Pick various apple, pear, and cherry varieties according to company standards. Selectively harvest fruit based on color, size, and ripeness as instructed. Handle fruit with care to prevent bruising or damage when placing it in bins. Use picking bags and ladders regularly during harvest. Assist in planting new trees, including clearing land, planting, and building trellises. Perform nursery tasks such as hoeing, weeding, planting, irrigating, and pruning. Apply compost and perform general labor to support the development of new orchard blocks. Monitor and care for trees during the growing season: hoeing, tilling, watering, and identifying signs of disease (e.g., blight in apples/pears, gummosis in cherries). Prop and tie limbs to support tree structure and fruit development. Repair and maintain overhead sprinkler and cooling systems. Prepare for harvest by spreading liners in bins and manually rolling bins into orchard rows. Load and unload empty bins by hand and place them in designated orchard areas. Perform mechanical work as needed at the worksite. Supervisors will inspect bins for bruised, damaged, or cull fruit. A “bad bin mark” will be issued if a bin contains excessive defects. Accumulating three bad bin marks may result in disciplinary action, including termination. Maintain cleanliness of the orchard by removing trash, old string, and wire from trellises and blocks. Perform other manual clean-up tasks as assigned. Workers are tasked with moving irrigation lines to ensure even water coverage across the pasture. This includes repairing any damaged lines and maintaining a consistent irrigation cycle to support healthy pasture growth. All irrigation equipment must be kept in good working conditions to ensure the land remains suitable for cattle grazing. Fence maintenance is another key responsibility. Workers use a 4-wheeler to inspect fence lines and perform necessary repairs to keep cattle safely contained. Regular monitoring helps prevent issues that could disrupt grazing operations or pose risks to livestock. Weed control is essential for maintaining pasture quality. Workers are expected to abate noxious weeds using tools such as hoes and other standard methods. They also spread composted material to enrich the soil and perform any additional labor required to support efficient cattle grazing. Work schedules vary depending on seasonal temperatures. During hot weather, shifts may begin as early as 6:00 AM and end by 1:00 PM to avoid the heat. In colder months, particularly from late October to December, shifts may start later, around 10:00 AM, to accommodate lower temperatures. Workers must be able and willing to drive tractors, planters, and other mechanized farm equipment to plant, cultivate, and harvest fruit crops. They will use this equipment to cut, pull, dig, clean, chop, or bundle harvested crops. Loading and unloading of harvested fruits or other materials may be done manually or with mechanized tools such as forklifts, pallet jacks, or hand trucks. Workers are also expected to mow, cut, and weed orchards as needed. Land preparation and clearing for planting involves removing trash, rocks, and other debris using hand or mechanized tools, and leveling land by moving dirt and other materials. Equipment used may include tractors, dozers, planters, mowers, plows, sprayers, cultivators, power shears, chainsaws, bobcats, backhoes, skid loaders, high lifts, and trucks. Specific tasks may involve operating specialty orchard tractors for mechanical pesticide, herbicide, fungicide spraying, mechanical fertilizing, weed mowing, flailing, disking, hilling, weeding, shoot thinning, trunk scrubbing, sucker removal, de-leafing, and bin trailer operation during harvest. Workers must be able to manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust machinery mechanisms. Routine service and maintenance of equipment is required, including lubricating grease points, checking fluid levels, inspecting belts and conveyors, and maintaining tires, wheels, bearings, and other wear parts. Workers must be able to repair or replace defective parts and attach farm implements using hand tools. General farm maintenance and repairs may also be assigned. Workers must be willing and able to install and maintain irrigation systems and water lines, including moving and installing irrigation pipes and equipment, digging and maintaining ditches, and installing or removing levee gates. Frost control duties may include starting and maintaining wind machines, operating smudge pots, and managing burn piles. All equipment must be operated safely to protect the operator, others, and the employer’s property and products. Failure to follow safety protocols and operating instructions may result in disciplinary action, including termination. Workers must wear assigned personal protective equipment when required and report to work in proper clothing and footwear. All footwears must be closed-toed and durable for safety. Inappropriate clothing will prevent workers from starting their shift. Workers must have a minimum of three months of prior orchard experience operating specialty orchard equipment and must provide relevant work history. Accuracy and efficiency in performing all duties are expected. Saturday work is required, and workers must be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds. The job may involve extensive pulling or pushing of tools, prolonged sitting or walking, stooping, bending, and repetitive movements. During harvest, workers must continuously work on their feet, carry or lift up to 60 pounds, and use a 12-foot aluminum ladder or platform for tasks above ground level. A demonstration period will be provided to familiarize workers with job specifications, proper methods, and crop-specific issues. All work sites are drug-free. Workers must not report to work, enter property, or perform services while under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, or any illegal or controlled substances. Employer-paid drug testing may occur upon suspicion, at random, or after an accident. In accordance with federal regulations, the employer prohibits the solicitation or payment of recruitment fees by workers. If a worker is solicited or has paid such a fee, they must notify the employer immediately. The employer will investigate and take appropriate remedial action.
