JOB SUMMARY

Royal Navy Communications and Influence (RN Comms) are looking for a passionate and motivated Internal Communications (IC) Manager to join our team and help keep the internal audience informed and engaged.
This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of communications. Working alongside the IC Team Leader and closely with Royal Navy (RN) Defence leaders and project teams, the post consults and advises on internal communications to develop, plan and evaluate internal communications campaigns across the workforce (both military and civilian)
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This role comes within the Internal Communications team of the Communications and Influence Department: functions involve the creation of internal communications content, providing communications consultancy to departments, and managing and improving internal communications channels.
Working in a team of people from military and civilian backgrounds, the Internal Communications Manager works with our internal Military experts, focusing on the requirements of the RN civilian and uniformed workforce.

Key tasks include:

  • Working alongside the Royal Navy Internal Communications Team Leader to implement the RN IC Strategy
  • Provide internal communications consultancy, encouraging stakeholders to adopt best practice IC
  • Creation and tailoring of communications content for internal audiences
  • Develop, plan, execute and evaluate campaigns and communications activities
  • Line Management of the Internal Communications Assistant

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Royal Navy Internal Communications Manager focuses on ensuring effective delivery of internal communications campaigns to the civilian and military workforce (supported by military team counterparts for audience insight). The post holder must have strong communications skills to ensure that the RN whole force workforce remain promptly and accurately informed of matters of relevance to them. You will also be required to assist with both RN IC and Defence joint campaigns as required.

Areas include:

  • Implementing the principles of the RN Internal Communications (RN IC) Strategy, based on the direction set in the RN Communications Strategy and fine tuning as priorities change within the organisation.
  • Providing IC consultancy to RN leaders and project teams, encouraging the adoption of best practice IC.
  • Developing, planning and executing campaigns and communications activities.
  • Reports to the RN Internal Communications Team Leader, providing an overview of all MOD IC and MOD campaign activities and briefing on key matters
  • Creating and tailoring communications content for the internal audiences.
  • Working with the RN Internal Communications Team Leader and the Strategy Team, to evaluate and measure the impact of IC activities.
  • Gather audience insight and internal communications campaign feedback to support continuous improvement of communications
  • Act as champion of IC channels and expert in using and managing them for effect audience engagement, advising on use and continuous improvement
  • Line Manager to the Internal Communications Assistant and oversee, plan and coordinate their professional development activities
  • Act as RN Comms Duty Officer within the roster
  • Collaborate with internal and external agencies as required to deliver delegated outputs.
  • Engage with MOD, DDC Strategy and Campaigns, external organisations and other key personnel to gain insight to support ongoing campaign planning and delivery.
  • Crisis and major incident communications support as required
