RURAL EDUCATION COORDINATOR
Focusing on rural Indigenous community & sexual health programs with an emphasis in HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, harm reduction, and sexual health education you will:
- Design, develop and deliver prevention education workshops and events in rural Yukon communities
- Facilitate educational workshops and events in rural Yukon communities to increase knowledge of sexual health, sexually transmitted and blood borne infection prevention, harm reduction, safer use practices, and overdose prevention and response
- Revising educational workshops to better meet community needs
- Managing the project budget and monitoring expenditures
- Evaluating program activities and completing funding reports.
- Engaging with rural Yukon community leadership and engage with community stakeholders to meet community needs
- Deliver front-line support and harm reduction programs, including in the Drop-in Centre, Needle and Pipe program, and Supervised Consumption Site
The ideal candidate has:
- Post-secondary training and/or equivalent experience in social sciences, social work, education or another relevant field
- Experience delivering health education programs
- Experience developing community or sexual health program (knowledge of HIV, hepatitis C and other sexually transmitted and blood borne infections preferred)
- Knowledge of and ability to deliver harm reduction programs (experience in delivering harm reduction services preferred);
- Ability to facilitate educational and community engagement workshops (experience preferred);
- Understanding of cultural safety and Yukon First Nations histories;
- Thorough understanding of the social determinants of health and their impact on Indigenous communities; and
- Communication, organizational and planning skills.
- This position requires some travel to rural communities so a willingness and ability to travel frequently is a requirement.
- Valid Yukon Drivers License and clear abstract;
- Current CPR and Standard First Aid certification;
- RCMP Security Clearance; and
- Personal Vehicle for use for rural community travel (mileage costs will be reimbursed).
