QUALIFICATIONS:
Grade 12 education supplemented by completion of the British Columbia Technical Qualification in Plumbing; certification as an HVAC Technician or 4th class Power Engineer; coursework related to refrigeration; minimum of three years current experience with DDC heating and ventilation controls; demonstrated high level of technical competency; competent in the use of all hand and power tools required for the trade; ability to operate mechanical/electrical test equipment; ability to lay out, assign and check work of assistants performing skilled and semi-skilled tasks; ability to estimate projects and select appropriate materials; ability to perform a variety of skilled tasks in the construction, repair and maintenance of school physical plants and equipment; Global Harmonized System (GHS) certified; valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s license and license appropriate to the type of equipment/vehicle being operated; meets the physical requirements of the position; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Duties are performed under the supervision of the Manager of Operations or designate; normally receives general instructions only, which requires the exercise of sound judgement as to the method of performing the work; maintains a wide range of plumbing, DDC heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems and assists in all aspects of maintaining district facilities; writes control programs, performs small systems installs, and addresses new DDC control panel, run new network cables, connects to existing school DDC system, and tests operation of all components; assists as required in the cost estimating of various projects and selection of appropriate materials; may be required to provide leadership to other maintenance employees; follows proper work procedures, observes all regulations pertinent to the work, maintains a good working relationship with other employees, and cooperates in maintaining a healthy learning and working environment; performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
