An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed-term crisis worker to join the Lancashire Sexual Assault and Forensic Examination (SAFE) Centre. The crisis worker role provides support for patients who have been sexually assaulted or raped within Lancashire and South Cumbria. This includes patient advocacy and crisis management whilst in the centre meeting the acute and short-term needs of the patient.
We are looking for an individual who can be flexible and will work 08:00-19:00 x2 days a week. You will be required to attend a minimum of 4 monthly meetings and group supervision sessions a year. If there are no cases, you will be involved with assisting the Centre Manager, Outreach and coordinator as required.
There is the opportunity for the post holder to join the out of hours rota where their own rota allows should the wish.
Candidates must ensure they can work the specified shift pattern of two shifts 08:00 - 19:00 between Monday and Frida y.
Candidates must also be aware that there is a future requirement for all SARC staff to provide a DNA sample for elimination purposes.

You will ensure, there is a welcoming environment when patients and visitors access the Centre.
You will manage the administration and management of clients accessing the SAFE Centre service
You may be required to offer telephone support to callers in the context of a sensitive and non-judgmental service, using effective communication skills and may be involved in follow up welfare calls
You will provide information to enable patients to make informed decisions in relation to the self-referral option, medical care, forensic examination, making a police report and onward referrals.
You will ensure there is a high standard of DNA decontamination between forensic cases

Crisis management
To know and understand the processes and procedures involved in attending the Lancashire SAFE Centre and to explain these clearly to the patient to gain informed consent for examination.
To prepare the pre and post examination areas of the Centre in readiness to receive patients and to ensure that all areas are left in a forensically clean state.
To offer a confidential and supportive environment in which to enable the patients to regain control.
To always ensure privacy for patients.
To offer information to enable informed decisions to be made in relation to forensic medical care, counselling and supporting a prosecution.
To liaise with co-workers at the Centre, including Sexual Offence Examiners and Police Officers.
To ensure that any action that is taken is consistent with the patient’s wishes.
To explain the Safeguarding procedures to patients and to make Safeguarding referrals where indicated.
To offer follow-on services as appropriate.
Administration and support
To maintain accurate record keeping of all activity in the relevant documentation.
To maintain confidential client notes and colposcope videos.
To fully complete the Data Collection Sheet prior to maintaining the computerised data base.
To liaise with the Centre Manager in relation to actions taken in line with Centre and Trust policies and procedures.
To participate in general administrative duties in relation to the smooth running of the Centre when on call.
To inform callers about the Centre services offered and provide information surrounding other voluntary and statutory services available in relation to sexual assault and other associated issues.
To offer limited telephone support to callers requiring assistance surrounding sexual assault, adhering to Centre and Trust policies and procedures.
Training and development
To engage with the training and development for Crisis Workers within the centre.
To attend an initial local induction with the Centre Manager/Practice Development followed by an agreed period of shadowing and mentorship prior to becoming solo on the on call rota.
To attend and keep up to date with mandatory training.
Adhere to, have knowledge and understanding of the Centre and Trusts policies and procedures to ensure the smooth and safe running of the service
