Overview We are looking for Safeguarding & Welfare Officers to handle safeguarding in our University Campuses in Exeter, Guildford, Warwick, Portsmouth, Stirling, Uxbridge, and Richmond. Safeguarding & Welfare Officers are responsible for the safeguarding and overall welfare of students. This person is responsible for the safety of students and staff as a Designated Safeguarding Person. An overview of the role follows: Act as DSP and liaise with acting DSP when necessary Oversee accommodation administration Oversee the implementation of effective health and safety, risk assessment and risk management procedures Liaise with students, group leaders and local health authorities when students are unwell Support and assist other centre staff with any administration or operational tasks as required Your role & responsibilities Review and update all Part A risk assessments (campus, academic, activity, and excursion) at the start of the course before students arrive Complete Part B risk log before each session, communicate risks to staff, and ensure all students and Group Leaders are informed Make sure staff understand and implement the risk assessments and are following the relevant Emergency Reaction Plans Organise key distribution/collection, manage bedroom defect reports, and liaise with the Programme Manager and the university in relation to accommodation matters Organise and coordinate fire drills in conjunction with the university and Programme Manager Regularly review appropriate accident and emergency procedures and health and safety procedures. Ensure everyone is aware of emergency procedures Support and assist other centre staff e.g. accompanying groups on excursion, covering part of the social programme Be prepared to accompany students to the hospital in the event of a medical emergency Act as Designated Safeguarding Person Each centre has a Designated Safeguarding Person (DSP), who is responsible for raising awareness of and offering guidance on all matters of safeguarding including Child Protection and Prevent. As DSP, you will: Liaise with the ANGLO Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) at Head Office whenever necessary Ensure everyone is familiar with the ANGLO Safeguarding Policy and its implementation Make sure that staff are aware of what to do if they have concerns about a child or if a child or another member of staff makes a disclosure Respond to all concerns about under 18s, taking the appropriate next steps and keeping meticulous records of all reports and incidents When required, verify DBS documentation when staff arrive at centre Requirements Essential (Please do not apply if you do not meet these requirements) You have the right to work 40+ hours per week in the UK between June and August You attend the mandatory training weekend in London You have experience working with young people You are computer literate and competent with Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets, GMail etc) You have experience in a pastoral role You love working with people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds You have an interest in foreign languages You are a quick thinker and problem solver Desirable A safeguarding qualification or previous safeguarding experience Previous experience as an Activity Leader, Activity Manager or other relevant Management experience You have a first aid/lifeguarding qualification ANGLO is committed to implementing Safeguarding and Prevent policies and guidelines. You may be required to work in excess of 48 hours per week. Evening and weekend work are required. You work a six-day week and get one full day off per week.
