Description The Safety and Compliance Manager plays a key role in supporting a safe, compliant, and positive work environment across the Cooperative. This position is responsible for overseeing all safety and compliance initiatives while providing exceptional internal customer service. The role promotes teamwork, communication, and consistency across branch locations by upholding safety standards, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide exceptional internal customer service by responding promptly to questions and concerns, resolving issues effectively, and maintaining confidentiality. Lead and manage all safety and compliance initiatives, including: Training new and existing employees Investigating accidents and incidents Conducting safety and compliance audits and recommending improvements Ensuring accurate document retention practices Developing and implementing safety standard operating procedures Researching and applying industry best practices Coordinating with managers to facilitate safety communications and training Maintaining DOT driver files and safety records Procuring and maintaining safety equipment and resources Working with state and federal agencies to ensure compliance Promote a positive and cohesive workplace by modeling professionalism, integrity, and flexibility. Ensure adherence to all Cooperative policies, as well as state and federal regulations. Maintain an organized, efficient, and safety-conscious work environment. Communicate effectively—both verbally and in writing—with employees, managers, and leadership. Manage multiple priorities and work independently while exhibiting strong leadership and problem-solving skills. Support cross-departmental teamwork and collaboration to drive operational excellence. Maintain a clean, professional appearance and demonstrate reliability through prompt and consistent attendance. Perform other related duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities The Safety and Compliance Manager oversee all safety and compliance programs and provides indirect supervision to Cooperative managers. This includes interviewing, hiring, and training employees; assigning and directing work; evaluating performance; and addressing concerns in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and applicable laws. The role also collaborates with other division managers to ensure efficient use of personnel and resources. Requirements EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE To be successful in this role, an individual must be able to perform all essential duties effectively. A bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS The employee must be able to obtain required certifications and licenses such as fall protection competency, 1A or 7B licenses, and safety or environmental certifications (e.g., OSHT, CSO). The role requires sound judgment and problem-solving skills to assess workplace hazards and choose appropriate precautions and protective equipment.
