Position: Regional Safety & Health Manager
Location: Santa Barbara, CA
Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site with Field Travel
Salary Range: $130,000 – $195,000/year (DOE)

OVERVIEW:

A leading heavy civil construction organization is seeking an experienced Regional Safety & Health Manager to oversee the development, implementation, and management of the company’s Safety and Health Management System for a designated region. This role ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies while fostering a culture of safety across multiple projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, or related field (required)
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a construction-related safety environment
  • Professional safety certifications preferred (CHST, CSP, or CMSP)
  • Extensive knowledge of Fall Protection, MUTCD standards, Construction Safety Orders, and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
  • Experience with OHSAS 18001 and familiarity with EM 385-1-1
  • Strong leadership, presentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to work in high production environments, including nights and weekends as needed
  • Physical ability to perform site visits, including working at heights and in confined spaces, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a regional safety team, providing mentorship, training, and performance oversight
  • Develop and execute strategic safety programs that meet or exceed company standards
  • Oversee compliance with all relevant occupational safety regulations, including OSHA, Cal-OSHA, MSHA, and other applicable agencies
  • Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections and audits, emphasizing hazard recognition, behavioral safety, and corrective actions
  • Coordinate and lead safety meetings, training programs, and accident prevention initiatives
  • Manage regulatory inspections and investigations, ensuring prompt corrective actions
  • Review and approve Job Hazard Analyses for major project phases
  • Investigate and maintain records for all incidents, claims, and near misses, working closely with insurance and risk management teams
  • Collaborate with project managers, field supervisors, and executives to promote safety best practices and ensure safe project execution
