Description The Safety & Quality Coordinator is responsible for leading and supporting all safety and quality initiatives across GEC’s manufacturing operations, including fabrication, plastics, and powder coating. This role ensures a safe working environment, compliance with OSHA and regulatory requirements, and adherence to quality standards. The position works closely with production teams to prevent incidents, reduce defects, and drive continuous improvement. This is a hands-on, floor-focused role that requires regular interaction with employees, supervisors, and leadership. Safety Management Lead and maintain compliance with OSHA and applicable safety regulations Conduct routine safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments across all departments (fabrication, plastics, powder coating) Investigate workplace incidents, near misses, and injuries; determine root cause and implement corrective actions Assist in developing and deliver safety training (e.g., PPE, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, forklift safety, hazard communication) Ensure proper use and availability of PPE Partner with supervisors to enforce safe work practices and address unsafe behaviors Support return-to-work and light-duty programs in coordination with HR Quality Assurance & Control Perform and oversee inspections (incoming, in-process, and final) for reels, racks, and fabricated components Ensure adherence to customer specifications, drawings, and internal standards Manage nonconforming material process, including documentation and disposition Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) Support ISO 9001:2015 compliance, documentation, and internal audits Maintain quality records, inspection reports, and metrics Work with production teams to reduce defects and improve first-pass yield Process Improvement Identify trends in safety incidents and quality issues; recommend improvements Assist in developing standard work instructions and best practices Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (lean, 5S, waste reduction) Training & Communication Conduct new hire safety orientation and ongoing training Provide toolbox talks and safety communications Train employees on quality standards and inspection requirements Communicate expectations clearly across all departments Documentation & Compliance Maintain safety manuals, SDS records, and compliance documentation Ensure procedures align with OSHA, EPA (as applicable), and ISO standards Prepare for and support audits (internal, customer, insurance, regulatory) Requirements Qualifications 2–5 years of experience in safety, quality, or manufacturing environment preferred Experience in metal fabrication, welding, plastics, or coating operations is a plus Working knowledge of OSHA standards and safety practices Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 or similar quality systems preferred Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action processes Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications preferred Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills Core Competencies Attention to Detail: Ensures safety and quality standards are consistently met Accountability: Takes ownership of safety and quality outcomes Communication: Effectively communicates expectations and findings across all levels Problem Solving: Identifies root causes and implements practical solutions Presence on the Floor: Actively engaged in daily operations and employee interactions Demonstrate George Evans Corporation Core Values Employees are expected to consistently model the values that define our company culture: Best Interest of the Company – Make decisions and take actions that support the long-term success and reputation of George Evans Corporation. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time hourly position, with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Hours are generally Monday-Thursday 6:00am-4:00pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel Minimal local travel to our Moline location may be required.
