WHAT WE NEED YOU TO BRING.

Horizon is seeking an open, enthusiastic, experienced Senior Systems Engineer – Avionics. You will lead the definition, integration, and certification of advanced avionics architectures for hybrid eVTOL aircraft. You will be responsible for the end-to-end development of critical systems including navigation, communication, flight displays, sensors, and vehicle management, working across hardware, software, and systems domains to deliver safe, reliable, and certifiable avionics solutions.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Lead the architecture, specification, and integration of avionics systems including flight control computers, comm/nav equipment, displays, sensors, and data buses
  • Define avionics system requirements and interface specifications in alignment with vehicle-level functions and safety goals
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support flight deck layout, human-machine interface (HMI), and pilot operational needs
  • Oversee the integration of avionics hardware and software, ensuring proper functionality, redundancy, and fault management
  • Manage supplier selection, technical oversight, and compliance to DO-254/DO-178C and relevant aerospace standards
  • Support vehicle functional safety analyses (e.g., FHA, FMEA, FTA) and participate in system and subsystem-level verification and validation
  • Lead avionics integration in lab, ground test, and flight test environments; troubleshoot and resolve system-level issues
  • Contribute to certification planning and compliance efforts with FAA, EASA, or other regulatory bodies, including documentation and audits
  • Be an integral part of the team, projecting positive behaviours and influence onto the team
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of the standards and specifications appropriate to the discipline
  • Challenge the status quo, bring new ideas to improve engineering quality, productivity and timeliness of delivery
  • Enforce standards, ensure rigor, resilience and continuous improvement in design solutions, meeting all regulatory requirements, conforming to specifications, quality and requirements within schedule and budget
  • Act as a project integrator and interface between project management and other engineering teams
  • Stay up to date with, and implement the latest developments in your field
  • Drive the continuous improvement of our processes to increase safety and efficiency

We are looking for people that will have the following qualifications and experiences: Demonstrated experience (7+ years) in a relevant role from aerospace or automotive, having worked across all phases of the lifecycle. Ideally you would have hands on experience with systems engineering, and you will have familiarity with eVTOL Certification regulations from the TCCA, FAA, and EASA.

LOCATION.

We are located just outside of Lindsay, in the Kawartha Lakes area of Ontario, Canada. Our team is onsite at our facility, as a group, a minimum of two days per week. We expect the same from you, and we are mindful of what a realistic commute would be to keep you safe and at your best. We offer relocation allowances in appropriate cases.

  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Proven experience in reliability engineering or a similar role within the aerospace industry.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in root cause analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks is preferred.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
