Description Position Summary: The Safety and Security Assistant Manager supports the Safety and Security Manager in overseeing day-to-day safety and security operations across the Foundation’s property. This role assists with operational supervision, staffing coordination, training support, incident oversight, and program implementation to help protect assets, employees, residents, and visitors while promoting a safe, secure, and welcoming environment. Working within the Public Engagement leadership structure, the Safety and Security Assistant Manager helps lead the Safety and Security Ambassador team. They reinforce safety, preservation, guest experience, and regulatory compliance standards. The role provides frontline leadership presence and operational continuity and may serve as acting manager when assigned. The Safety and Security program serves three core purposes: To convey and create a sense of safety and security for residents, employees, and guests To protect physical assets, including buildings, collections, and landscapes. To create a welcoming and approachable concierge atmosphere that improves the overall experience. Key daily and Weekly duties include: Provide shift coverage weekly up to 32 hours/week. Support daily safety and security operations across the 495-acre site. Assist in providing direct shift and field guidance to Safety & Security Ambassadors. Assist with scheduling and coverage coordination to support 24/7 operational needs. Help ensure ambassadors are properly equipped, trained, and post-ready. Conduct patrols and operational checks of buildings, grounds, and access points. Assist with regular risk and vulnerability assessments and mitigation measures. Respond to and help manage incidents, emergencies, and security concerns. Support investigations of security incidents and policy violations. Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency responders when directed. Review daily logs, incident reports, and patrol documentation for quality and completeness. Reinforce guest routing, rules, and safety compliance while supporting a high-quality visitor experience. Support Safety Committee coordination and safety culture initiatives. Assist with emergency drill planning and execution. Support AlertMedia (or emergency notification platform) database accuracy and usage Help ensure adherence to safety, security, and preservation policies. Support special event security planning and staffing. Provide overnight or after-hours leadership coverage when assigned. Overall Scope of Essential Functions: Shift coverage Security Operations Support - Assist with implementing security strategies and procedures to reduce risks, including theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access. Risk Assessment & Mitigation Support - Participate in risk assessments and help implement corrective or preventive measures. Staff Supervision - Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and accountability for Safety & Security Ambassadors. Incident Response - Support incident command, emergency response actions, documentation, and follow-up. Training Support - Assist with onboarding and recurrent training, including emergency response, de-escalation, CPR/AED, and site-specific protocols. Compliance & Standards - Support adherence to safety regulations, internal policies, and preservation requirements. Interdepartmental Coordination - Work collaboratively with Preservation, Collections, Operations, and Public Engagement teams. Compensation and hours: This regular full-time, non-exempt position, offers a pay rate of $21/hour, and 30-32 hours per week. Requirements Minimum Qualifications and Skills: 2–4 years of experience in safety, security, or related operations 1–2 years of supervisory or team lead experience Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and support frontline personnel Strong problem-solving, judgment, and decision-making skills under pressure Experience responding to incidents, emergencies, and safety or security concerns Ability to work a full-time schedule, including weekends, evenings, and special events, and adjust availability to provide short-notice operational or staffing coverage when needed. Ability to complete and review incident reports and operational documentation Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills with a professional, service-oriented approach De-escalation and conflict management capability Working knowledge of security operations and emergency response practices Basic proficiency in MS Office and ability to learn scheduling and emergency communication systems Availability for on-site emergency response when needed Ability to patrol large properties and varied terrain for extended periods Valid Arizona Driver’s License High school diploma or equivalent Preferred Qualifications: Experience with security operations within a museum, historic setting, or cultural institution. A valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Unarmed Security Guard License. Certifications in CPR/AED and First Aid. De-escalation and conflict resolution skills. Experience supporting emergency drills and exercises. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
