POSITION SUMMARY
Utilizes comprehensive knowledge of company safety and/or environmental policies, procedures and regulations to ensure compliance.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Certification in First Aid/CPR/AED, Bloodborne Pathogens, HAZWOPER 24hr. or 40hr., and DOT Hazmat Employee required.
Certification in OHSA 10 or 30 hour General Industry Standard’s course preferred.
Experience in Microsoft Office.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Occupational Safety and Health or related field and 2-5 years’ experience in safety, occupational health, or environmental compliance.
Thorough knowledge of Federal/State/Local regulations with regard to safety and environmental issues (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, EPA, DEQ).
Strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills required

Conducts safety and/or environmental testing to monitor workplace safety, occupational health, and environmental hazards. Reviews and interprets test/investigation results. Informs management of any issues or potential problems.
Investigates accidents, production processes working conditions and ergonomic concerns to determine compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. Collects data and prepares reports.
Coordinates with engineering staff to institute control and remedial measures for hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions and equipment.
Participates in educational meetings (e.g., annual safety orientation training, new hire orientation, monthly safety committee, periodic management updates, etc.) to promote and enhance safety and environmental awareness of employees and management.
Responds to employee concerns and/or complaints regarding safety and health issues. Investigates complaints and makes recommendations for countermeasures as needed.
Gathers safety and/or environmental data to ensure compliance with federal and state regulatory agencies such as OSHA/VOSH, EPA/VDEQ, DOT/PHMSA, NFPA, HRSD, and local recycle commission.
Assists with applications for solid waste permits, air permits, water permits, waste profiles, etc., as required, to maintain compliance with governmental requirements.
Assists with disposal of hazardous and universal wastes and select nonhazardous waste. Performs internal/external waste inspections to ensure processes/areas are compliant with established policies, procedures, and regulations.
Prepares safety and/or environmental reports (i.e., waste stream, CINC-required reports) including observations, analyses, data collection
Assists with Worker’s Compensation program, to include reporting and follow-up.
Documents company safety and environmental achievement and prepares awards and recognition applications.
Interfaces with and coaches department members to ensure accurate chemical inventories and the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database is properly maintained company-wide.
Participates in and supports efforts to maintain environmental and safety program-related certifications (e.g., ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, R2), including audit preparations and follow-up actions.
Reviews and interprets test/investigation results and makes recommendations for modifications as necessary.
Prepares, reviews, and updates safety/environmental investigation reports and recommends countermeasures to prevent future issues.
Collaborates with environmental scientists, planners, engineers, hazardous waste specialists and program brokers, and other experts in law and business to address safety/environmental problems.
Obtains, updates, and maintains plans, permits, and standard operating procedures in relation to safety and environmental impacts.
Monitors progress of safety and/or environmental improvement programs.
Inspects industrial and municipal facilities to evaluate operational effectiveness and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Prepares hazardous waste manifests and land disposal restriction notifications.
Maintains and revises safety/environmental documentation and procedures.
May perform Industrial Clinic duties as needed (i.e., logging in employee prescriptions, first-aid only treatments, conducting post-incident drug screens, etc.).
May specialize in ergonomics, environmental compliance, industrial hygiene, or general safety functional areas.
May be assigned additional duties and/or special projects.
