MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in writing, preparing, and interpreting requirements as well as drawings and technical reports.
  • Develop and maintain quality documentation (checklists, procedures, integrated work documents, test reports, etc.) in accordance with LANL document control and records management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the application of quality assurance practices defined in NAP 24A, Weapons Quality Policy, such as configuration management, risk management, and non-conformance reporting.
  • Experience with activity level operations such as walkdowns, practices, and proficiency demonstrations.
  • Thorough knowledge of professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, and procedures, as demonstrated by experience researching, designing, analyzing, testing, verifying, and validating engineering solutions.
  • Ability to obtain DOE Q Clearance.
    Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Understanding of LANL ScoR principles utilizing risk identification, hazard analysis, integrated work documents, and lessons learned. Additionally, understanding of the conduct of operations at other facilities within the DOE weapons enterprise.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of nuclear industry policies regarding safety-basis and quality assurance.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in one or more of the following engineering disciplines: mechanical; materials science; chemical; metallurgical, industrial, systems or other R&D engineering fields.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in designing; planning; and executing research and development projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in implementing Laboratory or similar industry objectives and other statements of policy, practice, and/or procedure.
  • Graduate degree preferred.
  • Active DOE Q Clearance.
    Work Schedule: This position works a 4/10 work schedule.

    Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Las Vegas, NV. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
    Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
Responsibilities

The Integrated Weapons Experiments (J) Division, Nevada Operations (J-NV) Group is looking for an engineer to support multiple programs involving the design, fielding, and execution of dynamic experiments with high quality requirements. This will include the generation of requirements with stakeholder input, maintaining configuration, document, and records management, as well as delivering data as defined by the requirements. This position will work closely with multiple LANL organizations to ensure the high level of rigor and quality required by these programs, and support J-NV’s mission deliverables by guiding teams in the field.
The position will be physically located in Nevada at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) and will directly support a Weapon Surveillance program and the Subcritical Experiment (SCE) program. This position will require occasional travel and requires the candidate to obtain and maintain a Q-clearance as well as mandatory participation in LANL’s Human Reliability Program (HRP) certification.
