*This position is only available at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, OH.* *We are currently only considering applicants who are currently enrolled in a nursing or healthcare program/school* General Summary/Responsibilities: The Safety Companion is a member of the health care team who works under the supervision of a licensed nurse to perform basic nursing tasks as assigned. Essential Duties & Functions: 1. Assists PCT and licensed nurse with care of the patient (including bathing or toileting). 2. Demonstrates knowledge of skin care including prevention, monitoring and reporting. 3. Maintains accurate documentation in the Epic computer system. 4. Meets the safety needs of the patient and uses equipment safely and properly (i.e., assistive devices, oxygen and side rails). 5. Follows all policies regarding infection control and employee safety. 6. Recognizes patient's needs and attends to their requests in a prompt and organized manner. 7. Maintains a neat and orderly patient environment. 8. Utilizes appropriate communication skills with the patient, the patient's family and all agency personnel. 9. Serves patient’s tray and assist with feeding if necessary. Removes food tray and reports amount eaten. 10. Completes accurate records and carries out all assignments as requested. Is responsible for maintaining minimum weekend on-call, holiday or other requirements established by the department. 11. Demonstrates respect for patient property and maintains patient confidentiality. 12. Observes basic elements of body functioning and reports changes to the licensed nurse. 13. Recognizes emergencies and demonstrates knowledge of emergency procedures. Ensures the patient and the environment is safe. If at any time, the patient/environment becomes unsafe, the safety companion calls for help. 14. Performs only under the supervision of a licensed nurse who has provided instruction for patient care (Care Plan). Participates in ongoing development of the Plan of Treatment. Education Minimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GED *If you are student currently enrolled in High School* Minimum Level of Education Required: No requirement · Attendance in Vocational or High School · Age > 16
Responsibilities
The Safety Companion assists licensed nurses and patient care technicians in providing basic nursing tasks and ensuring patient safety. They are responsible for maintaining a clean patient environment and responding to patient needs promptly.
