Description

Lyon Shipyard, a leading marine repair facility serving the East Coast since 1928, is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Safety Compliance Specialist to join our team. This role plays a critical part in promoting and enforcing safety standards across the shipyard, supporting OSHA compliance, and maintaining a safe working environment for all employees and subcontractors.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of OSHA standards and safety regulations.
  • Previous experience in safety compliance within an industrial or shipyard environment preferred.
  • Ability to conduct inspections, deliver training, and communicate effectively across departments.
  • Strong organizational and judgment skills to make sound decisions under pressure
Responsibilities
  • Conduct safety orientations and act as liaison between departments and subcontractors.
  • Enforce OSHA rules and company safety policies to prevent hazards and injuries.
  • Inspect facilities, document safety meetings, and monitor for violations like poor housekeeping or PPE misuse.
  • Conduct incident investigations and maintain accurate safety records.
  • Attend and participate in safety committee meetings (e.g., VSRRA).
  • Provide training on safety procedures including HAZCOM, confined spaces, CPR/AED, and respirator fit testing.
  • Issue Employee Action Notices when necessary with Safety Manager approval.
  • Monitor daily worker behaviors and support safety culture improvements.
  • Attend daily production meetings and assist shops using the safety training system.
