POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Safety Coordinator will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing safety protocols across the organization. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mining equipment and safety procedures, with the ability to support testing, movement, maintenance, and operational safety practices. The role involves supporting all facets of operations to ensure a safe work environment, including sign-off authority on safety compliance and facilitating safety training and certification programs. Additionally, the Safety Coordinator will be responsible for building and implementing a comprehensive safety program for the Amalgamated Mining Group of Companies and all their divisions, ensuring alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support safety procedures related to mining equipment, testing, movement, and maintenance across all operational areas.
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections of equipment, work areas, and operational practices.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and other teams to identify and mitigate safety risks.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive safety program for the organization and its divisions, including tailoring safety initiatives to meet specific operational needs.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the safety program, making continuous improvements to enhance safety performance and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, certifications, and training activities.
  • Support and facilitate safety training programs.
  • Promote a safety-first culture throughout the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience with mining equipment and safety protocols within the mining industry.
  • Train-the-Trainer certification or willingness to obtain such certification.
  • Knowledge of testing, certification processes, and safe movement of equipment.
  • Strong communication and training skills.
  • CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification is required.
  • Experience in developing and implementing safety programs is highly desirable.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams to promote safety.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in outdoor and indoor mining environments, often in challenging weather conditions.
  • Physically capable of standing, walking, and performing safety inspections in rugged terrain and confined spaces.
  • Willingness to travel between multiple operational sites as required.
