UPMC WESTERN PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL IS HIRING A FULL-TIME SAFETY GUARD!

The Safety Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, staff at Western Psychiatric Hospital
The shift for this position is 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. Days will rotate. Will work every other weekend.
Sign on bonus up to $1,500!

Responsibilities
  • Presence & Monitoring: Deter criminal activity, assist with customer service, and monitor security, fire, and environmental alarms at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital and associated areas.
  • Awareness & Reporting: Identify and address unauthorized persons, unusual factors, and malfunctions; report or resolve issues. Document activities and contact law enforcement as needed.
  • Searches & Inventory: Conduct searches, manage patient and visitor property, and maintain paperwork.
  • Problem Resolution & Customer Service: Address problems, disputes, and unusual circumstances. Provide assistance to patients, families, visitors, and staff to ensure a safe environment. Help with vehicle issues per policy.
  • Escort & Assistance: Guide patients and visitors within the facility, provide information, and assist handicapped and elderly persons. Ensure an adequate supply of wheelchairs at the hospital entrance.
  • Collaboration: Work with local police and authorities.
  • Locking & Unlocking: Secure doors after hours and unlock them at the start of business hours.
  • Certifications & Training: Maintain required certifications and complete mandatory training.
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • High level of integrity required for handling sensitive/confidential UPMC information.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills, especially the ability to effectively interact, communicate, and diffuse potential combative situations with persons from all walks of life.
  • Able to effectively deal with stress and potentially dangerous situations.
  • Physical fitness requirements to deal with typical physical demands that require full body motion and physical strength and stamina sufficient to respond to crisis interventions and medical emergencies.
  • Be able to effectively communicate both orally and in written format.
  • Good interpersonal skills; able to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations.
  • All applicants will be subject to a thorough background and criminal record check.
  • Must be available for all shifts.LICENSURE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND CLEARANCES:Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification required within 30 days of hire. Successfully pass UPMC Physical Fitness Standard prior to hire. Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCM) required after hire.
