    The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking three motivated and experienced professionals to join our Safety, Wellbeing and Compliance (SWC) team as Safety Investigators and Auditors.

ABOUT US:

People, Safety, Culture and Communications’ (PSCCs) core functions span the breadth of workplace cultural and people matters, including human resource policy and strategy; organisational culture and change; recruitment, redeployment, and retention; performance and development; pay, benefits and workforce reporting; occupational health and safety management; and employment regulations.
The Safety Investigator and Auditor sits within Safety, Wellbeing and Compliance (SWC), a branch of the PSCC in the Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department). The SWC branch provides process, systems and services to support the department to meet its responsibilities under health and safety laws (Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, Dangerous Goods Act 1985 and Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013).

Responsibilities

This is a unique opportunity to lead meaningful change and help build a safer, more resilient workplace. In this role, you will:

  • Design, collaborate and embed a comprehensive safety governance, auditing, and investigation framework that ensures compliance, consistency, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and deliver high-quality investigations and audits, identifying root causes and recommending effective, preventative risk controls.
  • Coach and support managers, Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs), and staff, building capability and fostering a proactive safety-first culture.

We’re looking for people who:

  • Have demonstrated experience in OHS investigations, audits, and governance within complex environments.
  • Are confident in applying OHS legislation and best practice methodologies (e.g., ICAM, RCA).
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and build strong stakeholder relationships.

Based in Melbourne CBD, these roles may also involve travel to metropolitan and regional locations to support teams and ensure consistent application of safety practices.
