This position requires a leader with extensive knowledge of safety management, risk assessments, incident investigations, and a track record of maintaining a strong safety culture across telecom construction sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Program Development: Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company’s safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure a safe working environment at all telecom construction sites.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, FMCSA guidelines, state-specific construction safety laws, and other relevant safety standards. Stay updated with changes in safety regulations and implement necessary adjustments.
  • Leadership & Team Management: Lead and manage the safety team, providing direction, support, and training to safety supervisors and other site safety personnel. Foster a culture of safety throughout the organization.
  • State Regulations & Recordkeeping: Oversee the accurate completion of OSHA 300 Logs, FMCSA biannual updates, and other regulatory recordkeeping requirements. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of incidents, injuries, and safety violations.
  • Site Inspections & Audits: Conduct regular site safety audits and inspections across all projects. Identify potential safety hazards, recommend solutions, and ensure corrective actions are implemented to mitigate risks.
  • Training & Development: Develop and oversee the execution of safety training programs, including onboarding for new hires, ongoing safety education for all staff, and specialized training for high-risk activities (e.g., tower climbing, equipment operation, and trenching).
  • Incident Management: Lead investigations of workplace accidents and near-misses, analyzing root causes and ensuring corrective and preventive measures are implemented.
  • Maintain detailed reports and ensure compliance with reporting protocols.
  • Safety Meetings: Organize and lead regular safety meetings and toolbox talks, promoting safety awareness, discussing ongoing safety initiatives, and addressing any concerns from the workforce.
  • Safety Metrics & Reporting: Track key safety performance metrics and provide regular reports to senior management, highlighting trends, compliance status, and areas for improvement.
  • Emergency Response: Ensure all telecom construction sites are prepared for emergencies, including the development and implementation of emergency response plans, evacuation procedures, and first aid protocols.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other departments to ensure safety is integrated into every phase of the construction process. Collaborate on hazard analysis, risk assessments, and project planning.
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor the effectiveness of the safety programs and initiatives, gathering feedback from the workforce and management, and making continuous improvements to enhance safety culture and performance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or a related field is desirable.
  • Experience: At least 5-7 years of experience in safety management within the construction industry, with a strong preference for candidates with telecom construction experience.
  • Certifications: OSHA 30-hour construction certification (OSHA 40-hour preferred), First Aid/CPR certification, and additional relevant safety certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or similar credentials.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, FMCSA guidelines, and state-specific construction safety regulations.
  • Proven leadership abilities, with experience managing a safety team and promoting a safety-conscious culture across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for conducting safety training, presenting reports, and collaborating with fellow employees.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in the identification of hazards and the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.
