Job Overview: The Safety Manager is responsible for promoting a safe & healthy work environment, responsible for promoting continuous improvement of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) systems that result in the reduction of incidents and ensure regulatory compliance. This position is also responsible for assisting with developing & directing the implementation of safety programs and assuring management takes actions to improve employee safety. This position will work directly with other project-level functional leads (e.g., Journeymen, Service Technicians) to assist them in integrating and/or addressing the applicable safety/health requirements in our work products and activities. Safety Manager-Key Responsibilities and Essential Tasks: • Conduct safety assessments/inspections of projects under construction to monitor and ensure compliance with safety/health requirements including contractual commitments, laws, regulations and the project’s site specific environmental, safety & health plans. A strong emphasis will be on promoting and improving the companies “Safety leading measures” • Collaborate with internal and external management to develop, prepare, and implement environmental, safety and security policies and procedures. • Identify opportunities to eliminate workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems. • Development of Method of Procedure (MOP), Site specific safety plans, critical activity plans and work permits. • Conduct investigations into employee or sub-contractor injuries, motor vehicle accidents, spills, discharges, theft, vandalism, property damages and develop written reports to document, including root cause analysis. • As directed by the Corporate Safety & Risk Manager conduct safety & compliance training for supervisors & field employees. • Provide comprehensive written reports to document site visits, activities and incidents as needed. • Perform other duties as assigned. LOCATION: A single construction site in Iowa. REPORTING STRUCTURE: Reports to – Corporate Safety & Risk Manager Department –General and Admin Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience in a Large Commercial construction setting. Working knowledge of injury prevention, compliance, and risk reduction techniques. Commercial or Industrial Electrical trade experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental health and safety with 10+ years full time construction safety management experience; or Trade experience with a board-certified safety credential from a nationally recognized organization (for example, CSP, CIH, ASP, CHST) and five years of full-time construction safety management experience; or Trade experience with a current OSHA 500 certification and ten years of full-time construction safety management experience. Must possess OSHA 30 construction certificate valid within 5 years. Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations as applied to construction and general industry. First Aid, CPR & AED certifications, must be willing to lead in an emergency event. Experienced with Return-to-Work Programs and coordination with individuals under Workers compensation care. Competent Person Designation: Electrical safety-NFPA 70E, Excavation, Fall protection and Confined space. OSHA 500, 501 and 510. MEWP and fall protection trainer. Experience with onsite OSHA investigations and inspections Self-driven, willing to work alone or as part of a team on assigned tasks and initiatives. Ability to work split shifts, overtime, weekends and travel as needed. Strong computer literacy and ability including to include Microsoft applications; Word, Excel, Power Point and other applications as needed. Strong analytical, problem-solving, supervisory and leadership skills. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds. Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach with hands and arms at waist level and below the waist; and work in limited space. Regularly required to talk in order to communicate detailed and accurate information. Regularly required to hear with or without correction in order to receive and interpret detailed information and instructions. Regularly required to sit for long and short periods at a time at a desk or driving to remote works sites. Regularly required to walk for long and short distances in order to accomplish job tasks. Regularly required to reach: ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) including reaching in front of body, at shoulder level. Ability to see with or without correction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus Regularly work in environments of extreme cold and hot temperatures. Regularly work at heights and elevated positions as needed to visually inspect work areas.
