JOB SUMMARY

Topaz Transport Inc. is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented, and experienced Transportation Safety Manager to lead and optimize our fleet safety operations. This critical role is responsible for ensuring all company drivers and fleet operations comply with Canadian and U.S. federal transportation laws and regulations. These include — but are not limited to — safe operation of vehicles, cargo security, hours of service compliance, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, customs and immigration, and weights and dimensions.
The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of Canadian NSC regulations, U.S. DOT and FMCSA guidelines, and a proven background in driver safety training, fuel usage analysis, camera monitoring systems, and ELD (Electronic Logging Device) management.
This position is responsible for supervising safety department staff and working cross-functionally with dispatch, HR, and fleet maintenance to ensure consistent adherence to safety policies and legal compliance.
This role also requires maintaining accurate and compliant driver files, safety audit records, and incident investigations. The Transportation Safety Manager will serve as the primary liaison during government audits and play a key role in developing a culture of safety and accountability throughout the company.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced diploma in Transportation Management, Logistics, Safety Management, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the transportation industry
  • At least 3 years in a management or supervisory role
  • Expert knowledge of Canadian and U.S. transportation regulations (NSC, DOT, FMCSA)
  • Experience managing ELD systems and camera-based safety platforms
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and incident analysis skills
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset
  • Valid Class 1 license is a plus

Responsibilities
  • Oversee and enforce all transportation safety programs and initiatives in compliance with provincial, federal, and cross-border regulations
  • Monitor and review driver logs, ELD records, fuel usage, inspection reports, and compliance data
  • Conduct internal audits and lead external audit preparation
  • Investigate safety incidents and violations; prepare detailed reports and corrective action plans
  • Coordinate and lead driver onboarding and recurrent training programs
  • Supervise safety staff and ensure consistent enforcement of policies
  • Maintain accurate driver qualification files and regulatory compliance documentation
  • Manage safety systems including dash cameras, GPS, and ELD platforms (e.g., Samsara)
  • Communicate with regulatory bodies, including Transport Canada, FMCSA, and provincial ministries
  • Recommend strategic improvements to reduce risk and improve operational safety
