Overview Summary:The Safety Officer ensures compliance with LAUSD, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and AQMD regulations across all field operations. This position requires strong management and safety enforcement skills with a heavy field presence. The Safety Officer develops and executes safety programs, job safety plans, and environmental compliance procedures that directly impact project execution, workforce safety, and LAUSD compliance standards. Responsibilities Essential Functions Enforce compliance with LAUSD OEHS, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and AQMD safety standards. Develop, implement, and update Job Safety Plans (JSPs) and hazard analyses. Maintain HEPA vacuum certifications and ensure equipment meets LAUSD and AQMD environmental standards. Maintain and manage AQMD registrations, permits, and certificates for regulated equipment. Oversee hazardous waste transport and disposal under CA DOT and EPA regulations. Conduct site inspections, safety audits, and jobsite safety meetings. Lead and document incident investigations and enforce corrective actions. Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Field Technicians to embed safety planning into daily work. Serve as company liaison during LAUSD OEHS and AQMD inspections and audits. Prepare weekly and monthly safety reports for executive review. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Science, or related field (emphasis on Safety) or equivalent relevant experience OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety and Health OSHA Confined Space Entry – Construction OSHA Fall Protection Training and Certification Asbestos Building Inspector Initial (AHERA) Asbestos Management Planner (AHERA, 16 Hours) Operations & Maintenance (AHERA, 16 Hours) USEPA Lead-Safe Renovator (RRP) Certification CPR/First Aid Certification Desired/Preferred Qualifications: Minimum 2 years’ experience in school district or public-sector construction. Experience managing AQMD compliance programs. Strong leadership and safety enforcement skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint).
