Safety Officer- Job Description

We require a qualified Safety Officer to oversee and ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, environmental, and fire safety regulations within our medical college campus, in accordance with the requirements of the UAE authorities, including Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) and Dubai Municipality (DM).

Scope of Work & Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with all applicable UAE health, safety, environmental, and fire safety regulations, including the requirements of Dubai Civil Defence (DCD), Dubai Municipality (DM), and institutional safety policies.
• Conduct routine inspections of classrooms, laboratories, simulation laboratories, offices, common areas, and other campus facilities to identify and eliminate potential hazards.
• Carry out risk assessments and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
• Develop, implement, and monitor health, safety, environmental, and emergency response policies and procedures.
• Coordinate fire safety measures, including regular inspection of fire alarm systems, firefighting equipment, emergency exits, evacuation routes, and other life safety systems in coordination with Dubai Civil Defence requirements.
• Plan, organise, and conduct fire drills and emergency evacuation exercises for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, prepare investigation reports, and recommend preventive measures.
• Ensure the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials, chemicals, and biomedical waste in coordination with the concerned departments and in compliance with applicable regulations.
• Conduct health and safety induction programs, awareness campaigns, and periodic training sessions for employees and students.
• Maintain all safety documentation, inspection records, incident reports, permits, and statutory compliance records.
• Coordinate with Dubai Civil Defence, Dubai Municipality, and other relevant regulatory authorities during inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.
• Monitor contractors and service providers working on campus to ensure adherence to all health and safety requirements.
• Promote a proactive safety culture and continuously monitor compliance with institutional health and safety standards.
• Perform any other health, safety, environmental, and fire safety-related duties as assigned by the management.

Preferred Qualifications:

• NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) and/or IOSH certification.
• Previous experience as a Safety Officer in a healthcare facility, educational institution, hospital, or similar environment.
• Thorough knowledge of UAE occupational health and safety regulations, Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) requirements, Dubai Municipality regulations, emergency preparedness, and fire safety standards.
• Strong communication, reporting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
