JOB OVERVIEW

TheSafety Representative is responsible for ensuring workplace safety and compliance with health regulations, conducting risk assessments, and developing safety policies tailored to organizational needs. A safety representative reports to the HSE Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum:

  • Education: High school diploma/GED and previous experience.
  • Certifications: OSHA 30, HAZWOPER 40 required. (OSHA 500 or CAF Certification preferred, not required.)
  • Experience: Practical experience in safety management or a related area is often necessary, with a strong understanding of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Must know how to work with others on different levels of understanding.
  • Understanding of coaching, advising, and correcting steps.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and standards applicable to the specific industry.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct Safety Audits: Regularly assess workplace environments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations such as company policy, Customer Site policy, State and Federal Regulations.
  • Risk Assessment: Evaluate risks associated with workplace practices and recommend corrective actions to mitigate these risks.
  • Develop Safety Policies: Create customized safety policies that reflect legal requirements and the specific needs of the organization.
  • Training and Education: Conduct training sessions for employees on safety practices, emergency procedures, and compliance with health and safety laws.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate workplace incidents to determine causes and recommend improvements to prevent future occurrences.
  • Stay Updated: Keep abreast of new legislation and changes in safety standards to provide informed advice to clients or employers.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with management to implement safety initiatives and improvements, and report on safety-related metrics and performance.
