                                                                                            JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE:               Safety Security Officer FLSA:                        Non-Exempt DIVSON:                   Services – Security REPORTS TO:          Shift Supervisor LOCATION:               Brooklyn, NY SALARY:                   $19.65 hourly SUMMARY: The Safety Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all clients, staff, and the property surrounding the facility, which includes a 90-bed men's homeless shelter. This position reports to both the Shift Supervisor and the Security Manager. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Perform daily inspections of all clients’ rooms • Escort clients to appointments as needed •Engage with clients, monitor their behavior, and foster strong rapport through excellent customer service. Encourage compliance with facility policies and procedures. • Control access at the main entrance by screening all clients and visitors, utilizing a magnetometer and x-ray machine to detect and prevent weapons from entering the site. • Conduct crisis interventions to de-escalate potential crisis situations and document all interventions.   • Perform hourly rounds throughout the entire facility, including all hallways, stairwells, floors, bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchen, and office spaces.   • Respond promptly to incidents. • Assist with client intakes • Complete daily pack-ups and log the property of clients who are absent without leave (AWOL). • Store and dispose of client property once the mandated storage period has expired. • Maintain a clean and organized storage area • **Job Responsibilities:** - Complete logs, incident reports, and all other required documentation. - Make calls to police, fire department, and other first responders as directed. - Perform administrative and receptionist duties at the operations desk, including monitoring video surveillance cameras and the fire prevention/detection alarm notification system. - Provide assistance related to fire incidents and facilitate the evacuation of the building when necessary, following the established fire procedures. - Ensure the safety and security of all assigned equipment. - Perform other tasks as assigned. **Experience, Education, and Special Requirements:** - A high school diploma or GED, along with prior security experience, is required. - Must possess a New York State Security Guard License and a current 8-Hour Annual Certificate. - A Fire Guard License for Shelters is preferred. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary. - Certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) is preferred. - Must be able to work flexible shifts, including weekends and overtime if necessary. **Agency Profile & Employee Expectations:** Westhab is a leading community development organization that provides housing and supportive services for over 10,000 of the most vulnerable members of our community each year.
