Assess common hazards and help develop loss prevention plans with department managers. Engage in security activities to protect staff and customers as well as manage and deter shoplifting. Status: Reports to the Safety and Outreach Manager. Customer Service: Assists internal and external customers in prompt, courteous manner High degree of awareness of customer routines and interests Sets a positive example for customer and shareholder relations All interactions conducted with the highest degree of respect and calm demeanor Safety: Functional knowledge of Safety Data Sheets for all chemicals that may be used in the normal course of job duties Handles hazardous equipment with care, maintaining awareness of others when using such equipment Wear appropriate clothing or PPE as needed; closed-toed shoes, cut or needle-proof gloves, safety glasses, face masks, fall harness, etc. Use of proper lifting and ergonomic procedures Mindful of potential hazards to customers and other employees and takes actions to correct hazards Bloodborne Pathogens, First Aid, CPR and other OSHA training as needed Works with overall Operations team to ensure store hazards are handled promptly Maintain all best practices for personal safety while diverting and diffusing potentially dangerous situations Teamwork: Assist other Operations team staff with tasks and projects that don’t interfere with regular job duties as able Works with the departments for efficiency. Ensures department teamwork through respect, trust and communication. Gives verbal or written communication to Safety and Outreach Manager of any needs or issues Looks at whole department when prioritizing tasks and completes tasks in a timely fashion Comes to work on time, works scheduled hours, and acts respectfully towards all staff. Takes breaks when appropriate and comes back on time, advising the Manager on Duty so they can plan appropriately Accountability: Accepts responsibility for own actions. Exemplifies honesty, integrity and ethics Job Specific Functions: Maintain comprehensive, detailed, and unbiased electronic logs of shoplifters, no-trespass events, and other problems within the scope of this job Conducts regular tours of the store, observing customers, interactions, activities, and general facilities concerns Conduct regular tours of the parking lot and space surrounding the facility, retrieving carts, organizing the airlock, and observing the premises Become familiar with the local population that interacts with the store at any level Assist customers that appear apprehensive or confused Approach and talk with observed shoplifter or known no-trespass violator Approach and diffuse any potentially dangerous situation involving customers or staff May perform job duties “incognito” periodically if a situation warrants it Reports any hazards to department managers and takes initial precautionary measures Works with Safety and Outreach Manager to ensure Loss Prevention policies are observed Routinely inspect camera footage and save data for police investigation Interact with police and emergency services when they’re on site as a first point of contact if no manager is available Interact with various inspectors as a first point of contact if no manager is available Act as first responder in the event of an emergency until relieved by a manager Set up and stock seasonal outreach supplies as necessary Respond to outreach assistance calls Maintain a professional and respectful relationship with outreach clients Assist in providing outreach clients with connections to local organizations Assist with basic (minimal training) Facilities related job duties as needed Assist with basic (surface cleaning) Janitorial related job duties as needed Requirements Minimum 2 years working in a security-related environment (loss prevention, physical security, corrections, police, military, outreach or social services) Training to handle and safely diffuse potentially unstable or dangerous individuals OSHA 10-hour certification minimum Project authority, confidence, and compassion in equal measure Must maintain confidentiality of sensitive information Able to stand and walk for entire shift Must be computer literate and proficient with Google suite and email applications Capable of working independently and with others in a cooperative environment Willingness to work varied hours, including weekends or evenings This job description is intended to outline the general responsibilities and requirements of the role.
