Description TITLE: Safety Specialist (Field & Operations) DEPARTMENT: Safety and Compliance REPORTS TO: Safety and Compliance Manager FLSA STATUS: Exempt Position Summary: The Safety Specialist, under the supervision of the Safety and Compliance Manager, serves as the department's primary field of presence and incident coordination. This role is responsible for delivering formal safety training, conducting daily behavioral reinforcement in field operations, performing facility inspections, and completing the After-Action Report for every incident — which initiates all downstream compliance and claims workflows. Essential Functions: Assist departments in responding to incidents — giving guidance on proper documentation of the scene, statements, photographs evidence, and reviews onboard camera footage to support accurate incident reporting Completes an After-Action Report for all incidents, including a preventability determination, root-cause analysis, and collaborating preventable action plans Serves as the primary point of contact for injured employees at the scene, directing medical care and ensuring documentation begins immediately Plans and delivers all required OSHA safety training for the workforce, including annual and monthly sessions, with topics guided by current incident trends Maintains consistent daily presence in field operations to reinforce safe behaviors, address at-risk practices, and support drivers identified as high-frequency incident drivers Conducts monthly safety inspections at all facilities, including building audits, equipment checks, and storm water and TCEQ inspections Evaluates the organization's procedures, facilities, equipment, and work practices by conducting inspections (root-cause analysis) at facilities, vehicles, route observations in-person and via camera recordings to identify unsafe conditions and implement safeguards and solutions to reduce/prevent accidents and injuries to workforce members, including guiding and training workforce members in the use of equipment/tools in our work environments Performs the monthly DMV run to collect vehicle registration renewals and state inspection stickers for the fleet and delivers all documents to HR/Safety Admin for processing Supports new hire onboarding by providing field-level safety orientation in coordination with the Training Specialist Provides backup support to peers within department Other duties as assigned Requirements Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Ability to convey Tiger Sanitation as the obvious choice for our customers, employees and community Actively demonstrates Tiger Sanitation’s core values in daily tasks and communications: Professionalism, Respect, Accountability and Communication Ability to demonstrate decision making skills that align with Tiger Sanitation’s 4 Step Decision Making Process Demonstrated ability to publicly facilitate and deliver formal training to diverse workforce audiences Ability to conduct thorough root cause analysis and incident investigation while producing clear written reports under field conditions Working knowledge of FMCSA, OSHA, TCEQ, EPA, and NFPA regulations as applied to fleet and field operations Ability to collaborate with coworkers and management team Ability to proficiently and safely operate company vehicles and equipment Ability to proficiently navigate multiple computer programs Ability to prioritize activities in order to achieve, individual and team, expectations and goals Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred 2-5 years’ experience in safety compliance, field safety or a related regulatory role, required Previous experience utilizing web-based programs and Microsoft Office products, preferred Bilingual, preferred Working Conditions This position will be in non-climate-controlled settings and an office environment with extended periods of sitting, standing and using manual dexterity to operate company vehicles, equipment, and computer-based systems and to conduct inspections and trainings.
