Overview:
The Safety Specialist is responsible for managing field compliance processes and delivering safety training across USS locations. This role ensured adherence to safety regulations, leads safety-focused meetings, and engages in proactive safety management to maintain a hazard-free workplace. The position requires extensive fieldwork and effective communication skills to translate company and client safety directives into actionable field practices.
Responsibilities:

EDUCATION:

4 Year / Bachelor’s Degree in related field such as Construction Management, Project Management or Governance, Risk, and Compliance

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 4 years of experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) compliance, preferably within field operations or transportation environments.

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Proficient in understanding and interpreting safety regulations, including DOT, OSHA, and EPA standards, with the ability to apply these in a field setting.
  • Communication and Training: Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills, able to convey complex safety concepts effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Problem Solving and Analysis: Strong analytical skills to assess safety risks, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions based on sound judgment and data-driven insights.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documentation, training content creation, and reporting. Familiarity with incident tracking systems is a plus.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Effective at building rapport and motivating team members to uphold safety standards; skilled in conflict resolution and providing constructive feedback.
  • Independent Work Ethic: Self-motivated, able to operate autonomously, and manage responsibilities effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Travel Requirement: Local travel to fields of assigned market/region.
  • Driver’s License: Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
  • Leadership and Personal Attributes: Exhibits strong interpersonal and motivations skills, capable of fostering a safety-focused culture across field teams. Demonstrates initiative and proactive approach to safety, taking ownership of compliance and field safety outcomes. Ability to make independent decisions in compliance management, leveraging regulatory knowledge and best practices.
