Employee Type: Regular Responsible for developing a safe work environment for all North American Mining locations by interacting with the workforce, supervisors, and managers to ensure proper training is given and proper safety practices are followed to meet all company and federal health and safety rules and regulations. Job Description: Title: Safety Supervisor (Grade E10 commensurate with experience) Location: Medley, FL Reports to: Safety Manager Department: Safety Essential Duties: Assists mine management in complying with all Federal, State, and Company safety policies and regulations with regular and timely notifications. Coordinates or conducts inspections of all mine site work areas for safety hazards and ensures that all hazards are promptly corrected. Conducts required health and safety sampling and maintains records. Develops, coordinates, and conducts required health, safety, and equipment task training and maintains records. Involved in the investigation of all accidents and reports to the proper authorities. Develops training modules as needed and is responsible for monthly safety meeting training. Conducts and coordinates new miner training, orientation, and annual refresher training. Monitors all Workers’ Compensation claims. Accompanies the Federal (MSHA) Inspectors on inspections and special investigations whenever possible. Supervises other Safety Department staff. Reviews new mine equipment and contractor equipment for safety requirements and documentation. Coordinates mine contractor safety training to ensure compliance with mine safety and health regulations at all North American Mining locations. Performs job duties in accordance with Federal law and regulations, established company safety procedures, and State and Federal environmental regulations. Other Duties: Establishes, monitors, and supervises outside service contracts for Pest Control, Waste services, Security, and medical supply services. Helps coordinate and conduct Random Drug Testing. Coordinates, schedules, and directs company safety recognition Must drive a company vehicle and maintain a valid driving record (MVR) and be in good standing. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of all Federal, State, and Company health and safety policies and regulations, good written and verbal communication skills, skill in the use of computers, and ability to make effective presentations. Ability to assume responsibilities related to employee development training and supervision of special projects, including facility and equipment outages. Good leadership and customer relationship skills. Required Education, Training, and Experience: MSHA Safety knowledge and experience Previous Supervisory or Management experience Minimum of 10 years of mining experience Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite A Four-year college degree may be substituted with 4 years of mining experience, along with supervisory experience JOB TITLE: Safety Supervisor WORKING CONDITIONS There are particular working conditions associated with this position that should be noted (i.e., working environment, hours of work, travel, workspace, etc.): Travel and inspection of all active mine areas are required a minimum of once per quarter. Overnight travel is required. Periodic Interstate travel is required. Nights and weekend work may be required. Work may be performed outside in all weather extremes. May be exposed to odors and dust.
