We are a fully delegated Indigenous Child & Family Service Agency providing programs and services to Indigenous children, youth, and families on and off reserve within Stó:lō Territory in the Fraser Valley between Yale First Nation and Surrey BC.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will be responsible for providing both intervention (counselling) and education around sexual abuse to Indigenous children, youth and families connected to the 18 communities directly serviced by Xyolhemeylh across the Fraser Valley. In addition to engaging with a variety of community partners to maximize awareness and prevention, SAIP Workers use a variety of therapeutic techniques when directly working with Indigenous children, youth, and families.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Master’s Degree with focus on human services, counselling, or Social Work plus a minimum of two years counselling experience, preferably working with Indigenous children.
  • Specialized training and/or experience in evidence-based child sexual abuse treatment, e.g., Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Emotion Focused Family Therapy, Expressive Therapy for children under 12.
  • Trauma Informed Practice Training
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the generational impacts of Colonization, and historical Child welfare practice, on Indigenous people and their families.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability of incorporating cultural practices, activities, and resources into all aspects of service to clients and communities.
  • Experience with developing materials and maintaining partnerships regarding awareness and education of issues surrounding sexual abuse.
  • Applies professional ethics to clinical practice and maintains competencies.
  • Excellent computer and keyboarding skills
  • Proof of a valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s license and successful Criminal Record check
  • Preference may be given to Indigenous candidates as per Section 41 of the Human Rights Code.
