Description

The Miriam P. Brenner Children’s Museum has been the place for children and families to explore, play, and learn together in our community for more than 20 years! We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic individual to join our sales team and work to build our audience and capacity to help families safely engage in hands-on, fun experiences with the power of play. If you have experience in hospitality, point of sales systems, communications, and data entry, this position might be right for you!
Mission: The Miriam P. Brenner Children’s Museum (MBCM) engages children and families of all ages in fun, learning experiences which contribute to their growth and development through play, creation, outdoor exploration, and STEM experiences. MBCM is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
Reports to: Sales Manager
Position Status: Non-Exempt, 40 hours per week
Pay Rate: $15 - $17/hour. Additional benefits following a probationary period include paid vacation and optional employer-sponsored health insurance.
Schedule: Flexible work schedule within Museum operating hours. One to two weekends per month required.

Qualifications

  • Able to communicate effectively with adults and children using active listening, flexibility, and understanding
  • Consistently able to demonstrate professional phone skills
  • Responds well under pressure with multiple demands while still delivering a high standard for customer service
  • 1-2 years of experience using a database or client management system
  • 1-2 years of experience using a point-of-sale system
  • Ability to work in a lively environment where duties may shift to respond to the daily needs of the Museum
  • Able to stand, stoop, reach and bend; mobility of arms to reach, dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small and large items
  • Able to walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Able to work with cleaning products
  • High School Diploma or Equivalenc

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a multi-cultural environment
  • Bi-lingual – Spanish, Arabic, or Mandarin
  • 3+ years of experience using a database or client management system
  • 3+ years of experience managing retail inventory
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related fiel

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include sales administration, customer service support, communications, and marketing.

  • Assists the Sales Manager with all forms of communication and coordination for birthday parties, field trips, facility rentals, online sales, camps, classes, and event registration.
  • Communicates and welcomes all guests with kindness and respect
  • Processes cash, credit, and check payments
  • Communicates clearly with other staff to optimize guests’ experiences and implement procedures
  • Prepares rooms as needed for parties, programs, lunches, or meetings
  • Provides support to the marketing campaigns and communications through the direction of the Sales Manager
  • Provides clerical support to Museum fundraising efforts under the direction of the Sales Manager
  • Provides assistance to all guests by answering general questions concerning museum offerings, exhibits, and scheduled programs and activities.
  • Oversight of the Museum gift shop including ordering, inventory, and sales or mission-aligned goals
  • Acting as the primary point of contact and customer service representative for Museum sales transactions including birthdays, field trips, events, summer camp, classes, etc.
  • Maintaining rotating, internal signage at the Museum to push sales objectives (target
