Job Details Job Location: Philadelphia, PA 19130 Job Summary: The Manager of Sales leads the Sales team and oversees retail and ticket sales operations for Eastern State, including for its historic site and Halloween festival. They take the lead in the recommendation, development, sourcing, and stocking of new products, retail merchandising, inventory management, and sales policies and enforcement. They ensure smooth running of retail and ticket sales operations to maximize sales, minimize costs, motivate sales staff, and ensure excellent guest experiences. This position supervises the Sales Coordinator and a team of full-time and part-time Sales Associates. Duties & Responsibilities: Operations Oversees daily retail and ticket sales operations, ensuring efficient admissions, ticket sales, and visitor flow. Ensures POS systems and ticketing platforms are operational, accurate, and properly maintained; coordinates troubleshooting and system updates as needed. Oversees daily opening and closing procedures, cash handling, deposits, and reconciliation to ensure financial accuracy and compliance. Maintains clean, organized, and welcoming front-of-house sales spaces. Supports continuous improvement of retail and ticketing operations. Management & General Management Hires, trains, schedules, and supervises full-time and part-time Sales Associates. Oversees daily sales staff deployment, task assignments, and coverage to ensure smooth operations. Provides coaching, performance feedback, and documentation in collaboration with the Senior Director of Marketing Communications & Sales (SDMCS). Motivates sales team, creating a culture of positivity and excellent customer service Ensures compliance with the United Steelworkers (USW) Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) in day-to-day operations and staff supervision. Merchandising & Sales Operations Oversees merchandise sourcing and design with input from SDMCS Oversees ordering, receiving, inventory control, and storage of retail merchandise. Ensures strong visual merchandising and store presentation across all retail environments to ensure industry best practices and optimize sales. Manages retail operations for the onsite museum store, online store, pop-up locations, and Halloween Nights retail spaces. Oversees annual inventory audits, loss prevention practices, and inventory accuracy. Recommends pricing strategies, discounts, and promotions to support revenue growth. Performance, Reporting, & Budgeting Analyzes sales trends, inventory levels, and performance metrics to inform decision-making. Prepares sales and inventory reports and supports retail budget management with a focus on efficiency and cost control. Monitors expenses and inventory investments to align with approved budgets. Manages payment processes for retail inventory, including invoicing for appropriate accounts. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Museum Studies, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Minimum of 4 years in a related role. 4+ years managing a team preferred Demonstrated experience in retail, sales operations, or visitor-focused environments, preferably within a nonprofit cultural institution Strong people-management skills, including experience hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and supervising staff. Ability to lead daily operations, adhering to institutional policies and procedures. Solid understanding of sales operations, cash handling, inventory control, and POS and ticketing systems. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize competing operational needs. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, visitors, vendors, and cross-departmental partners. Analytical mindset with the ability to review sales data, identify trends, and make practical recommendations. High attention to detail and commitment to delivering a positive visitor experience. Availability to work weekends and evenings as required by museum operations. Physical Requirements: Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
