POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Sample Prep Technician plays a critical role in the assay laboratory, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of geological and metallurgical samples. By performing key processes such as drying, crushing, pulverizing, and weighing, the technician directly supports reliable assay results essential for operational decision-making in mining and exploration activities.
The work environment may involve exposure to dust, noise, and chemicals, requiring adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This position consists of a 7-day on, 7-day off schedule with 12-hour day shifts. Shifts may be adjusted at the company’s discretion to meet operational needs. Additionally, overtime may be required depending on operational demands.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent required .
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including repetitive work, lifting 50 lbs, and prolonged standing required .
  • Capacity to safely and efficiently complete all job tasks in a laboratory environment required .
  • Experience in sample preparation, including the operation of drying ovens, crushers/splitters, and both auto and manual pulverizers an asset .
  • Knowledge of LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) for sample tracking and data management an asset .
  • Familiarity with WHMIS and MSDS regulation an asset .
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required .
  • Attention to detail with strong housekeeping practices required .
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability required .
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to company and regulatory policies and procedures required .

Responsibilities
  • Prepare geological and metallurgical samples by crushing, pulverizing or sieving according to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure fast and accurate processing of incoming samples in priority sequence.
  • Loading, drying, crushing, and pulverizing the required number of samples efficiently and accurately.
  • Complete daily tasks in coordination with supervision based on operational needs.
  • Conducting all processes (drying, crushing, pulverizing, and weighing) to maintain optimal operating performance and sample integrity.
  • Inspecting ovens, crushers, pulverizers, and tools to ensure functionality and safety.
  • Preparing and maintaining daily sample log sheets and documentation.
  • Prepare Flot samples and operate Carbon and Sulphur analyzer.
  • Prepare Specific Gravity samples, generate work sheets and report out results.
  • Adhering to strict housekeeping standards in all sections, including the oven, crushing, and pulverization areas.
  • Monitoring each step of the sample preparation process to ensure high quality results.
  • Ensuring compliance with all Ontario labor regulations, WHMIS standards, and company policies.
  • Utilizing the company’s LIMS system effectively for data entry and record keeping.Other duties as assigned.
