We are part of the wider Financial Crime Operations Business Unit and work alongside our AML, Transaction Monitoring and Fraud Teams to ensure our organisation and customers are kept safe. We also work closely with our International Payments and Frontline Teams to ensure that any International and FX payments are processed safely and in a timely manner. The Sanctions Analyst role is pivotal in ensuring we adequately complete sanctions screening to ensure we meet our compliance obligations to applicable legal and regulatory bodies (both domestic and international) in relation to sanctions and embargoes. This is a dynamic role where you will have the opportunity to work across various types of Sanctions screening at BNZ. We are passionate about customers and are looking for candidates that have the same drive for exceptional customer service, who search out process improvements and want to grow and develop as a subject matter expert. Mō te Tūranga | About the Role We sat down with the Sanctions Manager and they told us the following about the role: This is a permanent full-time position based in Wellington. It is a hybrid role with three days in the office and two days where you can work flexibly. Anchor day in the office is Friday. What are 5 day to day tasks the person in this role will complete? Complete review of International Payments processed through BNZ that have been flagged to ensure we meet our compliance obligations through in-depth investigation using various resources both internal and external and escalating to Senior Analysts when concerns are identified with clear recommendations. Identify everyday process improvements and innovative ideas within the team and take ownership to lead and implement. Management of all sanctions queries from correspondent banks regarding transactions using the secure SWIFT network. When required, train and coach new individuals and teams including supporting peer to peer development and capability growth. Contribute to the development of Sanctions policies, strategic direction and continuous improvement. What technical skills are required for this role? Proven ability with a mix of technical, regulatory, and investigative skills to detect sanctions concerns, including proficiency in screening systems such as Fircosoft Continuity to identify potential hits. Understanding SWIFT payment and banking structures to analyse transactions. Research complex transaction patterns to distinguish potential matches from false positives. Sufficient understanding of global and local sanctions frameworks such as MFAT, OFAC (US), EU and UN regulations. What attributes will this person display in order to be successful in this role? A self-motivated, curious individual who is passionate about Sanctions, and is capable of working as a team and autonomously at times to ensure our service level agreements are met.
