JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title Sanitation I Department Sanitation Reports To Sanitation Supervisor/Manager FLSA Status ☐ Exempt ☒ Non-Exempt Employment Type ☒ Full-Time  ☐ Part-Time Position Summary The Sanitation I employee is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing product-contact and non-product-contact surfaces throughout the pistachio processing facility. This position ensures compliance with food safety regulations, quality systems, GMPs, HACCP requirements, allergen controls, sanitation programs, and company policies while maintaining a safe and sanitary production environment. Essential Functions • Perform cleaning and sanitation activities including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, foaming, scrubbing, washing, rinsing, and sanitizing equipment and facility surfaces.  • Maintain processing equipment and surrounding plant areas in a clean and organized condition.  • Monitor processing areas during production to control product residue buildup.  • Remove product residue, shells, packaging materials, and rejected products from work areas.  • Empty trash containers throughout the facility daily.  • Pick up debris and foreign materials from production areas.  • Perform line cleaning activities according to sanitation schedules and procedures.  • Properly mix, handle, and use cleaning chemicals.  • Use color-coded cleaning tools according to sanitation procedures.  • Wear required PPE including gloves, safety glasses, face shields, and protective clothing.  • Comply with GMP, HACCP, food defense, allergen control, and food safety requirements.  • Report sanitation, food safety, quality, or compliance concerns to management.  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.  • Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience • High school diploma or GED preferred.  • Three (3) to six (6) months of related experience and/or training preferred.  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.  • Company-provided training available for qualified candidates. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Ability to read and interpret food safety policies, GMPs, company manuals, and work instructions.  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.  • Ability to follow written, verbal, diagram, and schedule-based instructions.  • Ability to safely solve problems and make sound decisions.  • Strong teamwork skills.  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently.  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.  • Ability to safely work with cleaning chemicals and sanitation equipment. Work Environment • Food manufacturing and pistachio processing environment.  • Exposure to loud noise, salt, ingredient odors, cleaning chemicals, sanitation chemicals, and sanitation equipment.  • Indoor and outdoor work may be required.  • Exposure to wet conditions, slippery surfaces, and cleaning solutions.  • Exposure to machinery, moving equipment, and production areas.  • Requires compliance with GMP requirements including hair restraints, no jewelry policies, and food safety practices.  • May work around pistachios and other tree nut allergens.
