Description Job Summary: The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Sanitation Department in a fast-paced, unionized food processing environment. This role ensures compliance with sanitation and food safety standards, supervises and develops sanitation employees, and maintains adherence to corporate, plant, federal, state, and local regulations. The Sanitation Supervisor drives sanitation objectives in the areas of safety, quality, efficiency, cost, and customer service, while fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement. Duties and Responsibilities: Supervise and direct a team of sanitation employees in daily cleaning and sanitation activities. Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), USDA, FDA, and OSHA requirements. Maintain accurate chemical inventory and ensure adequate sanitation supplies are available. Conduct and document sanitation inspections, housekeeping audits, and pest control monitoring. Train, coach, and mentor employees in sanitation practices, food safety, and workplace safety. Support employee onboarding, orientation, and ongoing training initiatives. Develop and implement sanitation procedures to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and regulatory compliance. Partner with production and maintenance teams to ensure facility readiness and equipment cleanliness. Maintain sanitation and compliance records, reports, and documentation. Promote and enforce company policies, workplace safety rules, and union agreements. Support continuous improvement initiatives and adapt to changing business needs. Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT). Perform other duties and projects as assigned. Requirements Qualifications and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Technical, or related discipline preferred. Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in sanitation and/or quality assurance in a food or beverage plant environment required. Prior supervisory experience in a union environment strongly preferred. Bilingual (Spanish/English) required. Strong knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, FDA, USDA, OSHA, and food safety principles. Experience with chemical handling and sanitation systems. Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills. Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Physical Requirements: Role requires presence in both office and plant environments. Regular time spent on the production floor. Exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, chemicals, and industrial equipment. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe shoes. Frequent walking, standing, climbing, and manual handling of tools and parts. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on occasion. Willingness and ability to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays as needed to support plant operations. Must maintain mental alertness, focus, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
