Job Description:
As part of the Global Professional Services organization at Vertex, Inc., the Principal Technical Consultant focuses on the technical aspects of SAP during Vertex implementations including all ABAP related activities utilizing the SAP Workbench. Examples of development objects are SAP User Exits, BADIs, BAPIs, and other SAP technology that are used to enhance the integration of Vertex with SAP. The focus of this position is to use SAP ABAP development tools and practices to further configure SAP or add to SAP ECC and / or CRM to optimize the Vertex applications with SAP applications. As a Vertex SAP Technical Consultant this individual will be involved in all aspects of the implementation of Vertex’s products and technology solutions and will work closely with a team of individuals on a regular basis. This individual may also contribute to the design and development of the SAP software integration layer (standard connector) to Vertex O Series, along with identifying other value-added services that contribute to Vertex’s revenue and profit objectives.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

• Four year Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• SAP Technology Certifications or Credentials recommended.
• 7+ years of SAP programming, testing and debugging required, including ABAP OOPS, BADI’s, BAPIs, EDI, Idocs, data dictionary and Workflow
• 7+ years of experience on interface design and development

Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Must have extensive experience with ABAP Objects, ABAP classes and interfaces, data dictionary, structures/extensions and Function Modules. Experience with SAP workflow is an advantage.
• Must be able to develop programs in a fast-paced environment and multi-task
• Must have tax system implementation experience, Vertex and SAP preferred, including Accelerator and Plus Tools.
• Leadership of SAP application development projects through all phases of the software development life cycle.
• Must demonstrate a thorough understanding of SAP methodology, principles, theories, concepts and techniques; and leadership skills including planning, scheduling, and coordinating work assignments to meet project milestones or established completion dates.
• Strong SD, MM, and/or FI experience, preferably in the tax area of at least one of these modules
• Familiarity and the Order to Cash and Procure to Pay business process flows in SAP
• SAP CRM and SRM experience a plus
• Familiar with SAP Roadmap and emerging technologies (Brim,BTP, RISE, etc.) a plus
• Must be customer focused, demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and present findings, and possess excellent interpersonal skills to interface with all levels of employees.
• Must be able to maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Must be able to work extended hours and travel to client sites as required.
• Java and/or XML experience a plus.
• Professional appearance and presentation required.

• Perform as a senior SAP ABAP programmer, specializing in the procure-to-pay and order-to-cash processes to include evaluating requirements, designing, and coding.
• Specific responsibilities may include: developing and debugging code, performing current system audits, system configuration, testing, knowledge transfer, and development of custom documentation.
• Execute on Vertex’s client Statement of Work (SOW).
• SAP Technical lead for all phases of a Vertex/ SAP software implementation by adhering to Vertex’s best practice methodology.
• Technical subject matter expert of the SAP integration architecture for Vertex indirect global tax products.
• Contribute to the SAP connector development – Apply the methods of Vertex Commercial development and production code delivery, leveraging the Partner Work Center’s Business Analyst and Development resources to design, build, unit test, patches, and enhancements or major connector releases.
• Promoting acceptance of and conformance to the SAP integration architecture and standards in alignment with Vertex products.
• Assessing customer needs/desires and determining system/software connector requirements to satisfy those needs.
• Strong technical knowledge and experience in working with SAP MM, PP, and CRM/SRM modules application.
• Ensures documentation of program development is compiled.
• Keeps up-to-date with new SAP ABAP programming developments to ensure that functionality is implemented in the optimal manner.
• May provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff and lead projects.
• Actively collaborate with other Vertex teams to ensure overall customer satisfaction.
