Overview Position Purpose: SAP Specialist will play a crucial role in maintaining & improving SAP Instance for GATX India. This role is detail-oriented in SAP ECC 6.0 to manage, maintain, and continuously improve our SAP landscape. This role will serve as the primary liaison between business users, SAP technical support team to ensure smooth operations, user adoption, and value realization from our ERP investment Responsibilities Key Job Activities: The SAP Specialist will work within Technology function and works directly with the Head of Technology to support digital transformation projects for various functional groups within the company. In addition, it is also expected that the candidate proactively drives initiatives and can support multi-level application integration. This is an individual contributor position and requires a candidate who is self-driven and thrives to work in a dynamic environment. Key Activities % Time Spent 1. System Administration, Monitoring & Quarterly Release Management Monitor system health, performance, and usage Manage user access, roles, and authorizations Coordinate with SAP for system maintenance and updates Review SAP release notes and assess impact Ensure smooth adoption of new features and compliance with clean core principles 20% 2. Process Optimization & Enhancements Collaborate with business users to identify improvement opportunities Configure standard features and workflows using in-app extensibility Drive SAP migration from On-prem to SAP S/4HANA Cloud instance 20% 3. Compliance & Governance Ensure adherence to internal IT policies, audit requirements, and data privacy regulations Maintain documentation for system changes and configurations Support internal and external audits 20% 4. Reporting & Analytics Develop and maintain reports and dashboards generated from SAP and Power BI Support business teams with data insights and KPIs 20% 5. Integration Oversight Monitor and troubleshoot integrations with other systems (e.g., Ops 360, CRM, finance tools etc) Coordinate with integration teams for multi-application integration 20% Qualifications Interaction: GIPL functional groups, SAP Consultants, Third-party vendors (incl. developers) Competency: Act as the internal owner of the SAP ECC 6.0 system Manage user access, roles, and authorizations in line with governance policies Coordinate with SAP support and partners for incident resolution and service requests Monitor quarterly SAP updates and manage regression testing and change impact Support business users with training, issue resolution, and process optimization Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement enhancements Ensure compliance with data security, audit, and regulatory requirements Maintain documentation of configurations, processes, and change logs Collaborate with our SAP North America technical team and other internal team for SAP ECC 6.0 integration with various other applications Education and/or Experience Required (including certifications): Must have B.Tech, preferably in Computer Science 3–5 years of hands-on experience in SAP ECC 6.0 system administration and support Strong understanding of ABAP development and SAP best practices for ECC Experience in system monitoring, performance tuning, and transport management Familiarity with integration tools (e.g., SAP PI/PO, Mulesoft) and interface troubleshooting Knowledge of SAP Basis activities such as user management, patching, and upgrades Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills for ECC environment Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively SAP ECC or SAP Basis certification (preferred) Other (i.e., physical requirements, travel, etc. that is not covered above): NOTE: The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job.
