SAIC’s National Security and Space (NSS) Sector is currently hiring to advance space capabilities supporting our Department of Defense (DOD) and Intelligence Community customers. Ten miles from the SAIC headquarters, our Chantilly, VA team supports systems development, targeting & intelligence analysis, systems engineering & integration and more.
This position is for Satellite System Engineer for a large, multi-year contract supporting a cutting-edge and innovative space program. Be part of a highly effective and collaborative team responsible for maximizing the effectiveness of our staff and our program.
The Satellite System Engineer supports a large, highly technical team providing system engineering and subsystem analysis support to multiple satellite missions. This position is for a junior candidate that will apprentice under senior staff with decades of experience on this program and other highly specialized and highly classified space programs. The Satellite System Engineer performs Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) analysis using various tools, including MatLab and STK, to inform mission utility trades and confirm vehicle performance.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess an active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
  • Bachelors degree and 2 years experience in satellite design or satellite system engineering.
  • Working knowledge of satellite operations, focused on orbital dynamics.
  • Experience in working with orbital state data and associated tools (STK, MATLAB, Freeflyer, or similar).
  • Experience with software languages for scripting, modeling, simulations, and data transfers including Python.
  • Effective interpersonal skills (across multiple groups, offices, and organizations).
  • Effective communication, coordination, and customer engagement skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic, and team environment with limited direct supervision.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Expertise in GNC subsystem design or development.
  • Experience in working in satellite operations environment.
    SAIC accepts applications on an ongoing basis and there is no deadline.
    Covid Policy: SAIC does not require COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters. Customer site vaccination requirements must be followed when work is performed at a customer site

Responsibilities:

  • Create models, simulations, and analysis tools to model real-time satellite operations.
  • Analyze potential mission orbits to assess mission effectiveness.
  • Consult with mission subsystem SMEs and mission leads to clarify mission objectives and operating parameters.
  • Coordinate with functional area leads to aggregate analysis results into reports and decision briefings.
  • Partner with fellow system engineers to proactively cross-train and support surge system engineering activities.
