POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-focused Saw Operator to join our Saw and Receiving team. This role is responsible for operating industrial saw machines to cut raw metal materials according to technical specifications and ensuring that materials are moved, organized, and stored efficiently throughout the yard and receiving areas. The successful candidate will support shop productivity, accuracy in material handling, and a clean, safe work environment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated experience as a saw operator or in a related position within a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
  • Previous experience in a general shop hand role within a manufacturing or production setting is considered an asset.
  • Valid forklift operator certification.
  • Certification in overhead crane operation and safe lifting practices.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • WHMIS certification or an equivalent recognized safety training credential.
  • On-site training provided for saw operation techniques and basic equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

SAW OPERATOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set up, operate, clean, and maintain saw equipment; change blades, coolant, and oil as needed.
  • Interpret technical drawings and verbal instructions to select appropriate materials and cutting patterns.
  • Inspect material to determine the correct size, quality, and characteristics for optimal cuts.
  • Use callipers and basic measuring tools with precision to ensure cut accuracy.
  • Understand travellers and production flow to organize cut materials for machinists.
  • Safely receive, unload, and route incoming materials using forklifts, overhead cranes, or loaders.
  • Inspect and verify incoming materials against shipping documents; identify damage and record discrepancies.
  • Manage raw steel inventory and utilize existing stock effectively.
  • Maintain a clean and organized saw area, racks, and receiving yard to maximize efficiency and safety.
  • Collect and empty chip bins; unpack, disassemble, and organize deliveries.
  • Perform basic equipment checks and minor maintenance as needed.
  • Support all health, safety, and COR compliance initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the Saw and Yard Manager
