Description Job Summary: Position is responsible for supervising inmates in the production of lumber products. Requires a strong background in production and manufacturing of produced goods. A good understanding of hand tools would be helpful. Requires strong supervisory skills for directing and training inmates working and assessing their skills. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned. Supervise and train inmates in all clerical and physical functions of producing lumber products. Assist and train inmates in quality control of produced products. Promote a safe work environment for inmate workers by enforcing safe PPE practices in your department. Conduct monthly safety meeting. Confer with supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments. Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions. Conduct inmate worker training in equipment operations or work and safety procedures or assign employee training to experienced workers. Inform supervisor regarding requisitioning materials, supplies, equipment parts, or repair service. Coordinate with all departments to ensure Production Schedules are adhered to and provide Customers with on time deliveries to an Acceptable Quality Standard. Have understanding and experience with Safe Forklift operation. Be willing to accept the Mission of PRI and adhere to all PRI policies. Set up, operate, or tend saws or machines that cut or trim wood to specified dimensions, such as circular saws, band saws, multiple blade sawing machines, scroll saws, ripsaws, or table saws. Work closely with other PRI and FDC personnel to ensure compliance with institutional rules and regulations. Have strong communication skills and willingness to promote a team atmosphere. Have General knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. (Dynamic 365) Inspect stock for imperfections or estimate grades or qualities of stock or workpieces. Guide workpieces against saws, saw over workpieces by hand, or operate automatic feeding devices to guide cuts. Knowledge of Lockout Tagout Procedures. Examine logs or lumber to plan the best cuts. Monitor sawing machines, adjusting speed and tension, and clearing jams to ensure proper operation. Trim lumber to straighten rough edges or remove defects, using circular saws. Supervisors are responsible for cross training all inmates in their department. Requirements Education and Experience: Three (3) years of experience in lumber plant. Prefer two years supervisory experience. Language Skills: Good verbal, written, and electronic communication skills. Mathematical Skills: Basic math skills. Reasoning Ability: Reading comprehension. Specialized Knowledge and/or Skill: Proficient in tools and reading a tape measure. Forklift certified. Self-starter. Understand quality control awareness and management. Safety management. Ability to foster teamwork. Detail-oriented and handle stress and conflict resolution skills. Other Skills and Abilities: Demonstrates strong people and leadership abilities, effective personal time management, and consistently displays honesty, dependability, straightforward communication, a pleasant demeanor, and adaptability.
