About the role
The SCADA Engineer - Automation Systems is a key member of our Automation Systems team, supporting the secure, reliable and efficient delivery of secondary systems projects. Reporting to the Principal Automation Systems Engineer, you will manage our application used to control secure access to and configuration of protection, SCADA and communications devices, including relays, RTUs and Ethernet switches.
You will work closely with SCADA and Automation Systems specialists to solve technical problems, strengthen cyber security controls and deliver projects ranging from IEC 61850 zone substation upgrades and HMI development to communications networks, distribution substation SCADA and low-voltage power quality monitoring. Your ability to learn quickly, analyse complex issues, think creatively and produce precise, automated solutions will be central to your success.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and enhance our remote access and configuration management system, provide user support, and work with the vendor to resolve defects and deliver improvements.
- Develop and maintain reusable Automation Systems templates, baseline device configurations, I/O lists and Inspection Test Plans to improve quality and reduce manual effort.
- Configure and deliver minor SCADA and monitoring projects, including power quality, recloser and distribution substation installations.
- Support IEC 61850 zone substation engineering, including SCD files, HMI displays, communications network configurations, system integration and laboratory testing.

- Identify and help remediate cyber security vulnerabilities and risks across secondary systems through secure device, network and application controls.
- Maintain asset data and contribute to asset-specific plans, maintenance strategies and replacement strategies.
- Monitor distribution substation devices and prepare reporting on SCADA quality, system health, defects and work program status.
- Continuously improve Automation Systems processes, standards and functional specifications while championing Evoenergy’s values, safety responsibilities and legislative obligations.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Information Technology or a related discipline.
- Knowledge and practical experience in SCADA, automation systems, communications and Ethernet networks.
- An understanding of cyber security risks affecting electrical utility secondary systems and a commitment to keeping current with critical infrastructure obligations, including the SOCI Act.
- Experience with software applications, databases and programming, with the ability to develop automated tools and templates.
