Description:
JOB SUMMARY:
· Provides a variety of general clerical assistance. Supports Residence Coordinators and Program Managers with shift scheduling.
· Provide care to children/youth with moderate to severe behavioural problems in a specialized home setting
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
· Diploma in a related human/social service field
MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:
· Two (2) years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
· Valid, unrestricted Class 5 BC Driver’s License
· Suitable personal driving record

Responsibilities:
JOB DUTIES:
- Greets clients/suppliers/visitors to the worksite in a professional and friendly manner.
- Answers phone and/or in-person inquiries and routes to appropriate staff members if required. Responds to routine queries with regard to the organization and services provided.
- Assists with staff onboarding by obtaining basic information, assisting in completing forms, and booking appointments with staff in accordance with established guidelines.
- Performs basic data entry functions such as inputting information into databases and contact lists; Maintains and updates filing, inventory, mailing lists, registers and/or other records either manually or using a computer.
- Performs general word processing and typing from rough draft or general instruction, including correspondence, reports, forms and documents.
- Operates a variety of office equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, facsimile equipment, multi-line switchboard and postage meter.
- Reviews files, records, and other documents to obtain basic information to respond to requests.
- Handles simple cash transactions such as collecting payments, issuing receipts, and maintaining petty cash in accordance with established guidelines.
- Reviews Child and Youth Worker and Awake Night Worker timesheets for accuracy before submitting to payroll department by cross referencing schedule of shifts worked.
- Posts and approves work shifts for SHSS staff (Child and Youth Workers and Awake Night Workers) using online scheduling software as directed by Residence Coordinators and Program Managers. Maintains shift schedule changes on scheduling document.
- Ensures safety and well-being of children and youth at the Care Setting.
- Actively works to get to know children and youth better and to gather information about their needs; and providing updated information on an ongoing basis to the program manager.
- Participates in children’s and youth’s assessments, Goal/Strategy setting, and program planning (where appropriate), and supports documenting, monitoring, and measuring progress.
- Appropriately delivers or enables strategies established in children’s and youth’s SHSS Service Plan.
- Teaches and strengthens children’s and youth’s skills in a socially and culturally appropriate manner through the use of daily routines and activities.
- Provides Trauma-informed care (through behavior management, attachment-based, relational or other appropriate evidence informed modalities) to children and youth on a one-to-one and/or group basis by performing duties such as providing feedback on behaviour, teaching coping techniques and adaptive behaviour, and providing guidance and support.
- Provides care to children and youth with mild to exceptional support needs in a staffed-resource setting, including children and youth with behavioural challenges.
- Provides emotional support and crisis intervention to children and youth, which may include non-violent physical interventions.
- Supports children’s and youth’s community inclusion (e.g. home, school, activities, family, the community).
- Ensures that children and youth’s physical needs are met by performing duties such as assisting with basic physical hygiene, preparing meals, and administering medications as required in accordance with established policy, guidelines, procedures and instructions.
- Maintains reports and other documentation such as logbooks, charts, daily activities on residents.
- Accompanies children and youth to appointments and community outings.
- Provides life skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills and personal finance and implements personal service plans.
- Participates in various client-focused activities in accordance with care plans.
- Recognizes, analyzes and deals with potential emergency situations such as clients’ aggressive behaviour to ensure no harm comes to the client, the staff, and/or the public. Reports problems to the Program Manager.
- Administers medication to clients in accordance with established policy.
- Assists with case management by identifying potential problems and reporting any difficulties. Provides input to the Program Manager with regard to the development of appropriate program plans to achieve residents’ objectives. Contributes to the evaluation of the residents’ progress and prepares reports.
- Performs residence maintenance and housekeeping duties such as laundry, sweeping, mopping floors, mowing lawns, inventory, shopping, cleaning equipment and food services.
- Maintains reports such as statistics, daily log, daily activities on residents.
- Identifies social economic, recreational, and educational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs. Maintains liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials and the community.
- Is required to work shift work, including evenings and weekends.
- Performs other related duties as required.
