QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Must be a full time student at Western (enrolled in minimum 3.5 courses), and expect to retain full-time student status for the duration of this appointment
  • Must be a Scholars student in high academic standing. Preference for this role will be given to current Scholar’s Electives students.

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Thorough understanding of both Scholar’s Electives and Western Scholars programs.
  • Proven record of exceptional extracurricular involvement and diverse interests.
  • Student must have actively participated in the Scholars programs.
  • Leadership, mentorship, and event management experience.
  • Knowledge of various first-year courses offered to students.
  • Captivating presentation skills, experience with interactive public speaking.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Professional written communication skills (email primarily)
  • Social media and promotional proficiencies.
  • Creativity and willingness to implement new ideas and events.
  • Ability to create and follow through on initiatives related to program enhancement and help Liaisons in their goal to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the Publications, Community, and Connectors Programs.
Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

Western Scholars and Scholar’s Electives are both programs for high-achieving students. The Student Coordinator will report to and work alongside the Scholars Program Coordinator and the Scholars Student Liaisons to ensure the success of the community integrated programs.
Throughout the year, the individual in this role is expected to engage in various administrative duties, represent the programs at promotional events, and interact with students on an ongoing basis. The student is responsible for supporting and coordinating with the Student Liaisons to create and promote cohesive and inclusive scholar’s events for both Scholar’s Electives and Western Scholars. They will also support social media initiatives, managing the budget for events, and bringing new ideas for creative and engaging to presentations and student interactions.
Due to the nature of this role, this student will be required to complete their CliftonStrengths assessment and complete additional 1:1 coaching sessions and training to support incorporating strengths into student leadership and mentorship activities. Knowledge and training on each of the community programs is also required. The student must constantly address the needs of scholars and follow through on assigned tasks and projects in a timely manner. They must continuously remain an ambassador of the school, and interact with faculty, students, and the general public in a highly professional manner.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

  • Support administrative functions and events for the Scholars community.
  • Seek and utilize student feedback to tailor and improve program offerings.
  • Follow through on assigned tasks and projects in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate events and activities alongside Student Liaisons.
  • Facilitate team meetings and goal setting with Liaisons and communicating regular updates to Program Coordinator.
  • Provide emails to students with information about scholar’s events throughout the year and respond to students’ inquiries and concerns as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality standards as required.
  • Represent the division of Student Experience professionally.
  • Respect differences of gender, ethnic origin, race, religious affiliation, sexual orientation and those with disabilities.
