QUALIFICATIONS:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Work requires thorough knowledge of School, Faculty, University regulations and procedures
  • Strong computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet, and Banner)
  • Strong verbal and writing communication skills, independent judgement, initiative, ability to analyze, organize, work with figures, set priorities, and work under pressure.
  • Diplomacy, tact and a high level of interpersonal skills are mandatory.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • Three-year university degree or college diploma, preferably in a related field. Knowledge of medical terminology would be considered an asset.
  • Five years of related and progressively responsible experience in both administrative and academic environments.
  • Experience supporting accredited academic programs and handling medical records would be considered an asset.
  • Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of the School of Nursing, the School Administrator is responsible for the efficient administrative operation of the School.
The School Administrator acts in an advisory capacity to the Director on University regulations, procedures, and School administrative matters, ensuring the sound financial administration of the department’s operating budgets, as well as fiscal funds. The incumbent provides extensive support to the Director in compiling the School’s timetable submissions; coordinates and edits the School’s submission for the Undergraduate Calendar and other institutional publications; prepares statistics and other information as required, as well as supports the recruitment, appointment, and promotion of faculty, contract instructors, and the allocation of teaching assistants. The School Administrator coordinates and administers the School’s data and file management system.
In addition, the School Administrator supervises temporary support staff, assists with space coordination, monthly leave reporting, payroll, and Health and Safety matters. The School Administrator represents the School at administrative meetings on administrative matters within the School and the University and performs other duties as requested by the Director.
