BUILD YOUR RESUME THIS SUMMER!  The Madison Area YMCA is hiring 2026 School-Age Summer Camp Counselors. Camp Dates: June 22, 2026, through August 27, 2026  What You'll Do As a YMCA camp counselor, you'll help create a safe structured, and fun camp experience for children entering kindergarten through 5th grade by: * Supervising and engaging groups in a safe, fun, and positive environment * Plan and lead age-appropriate games, crafts, sports, and outdoor activities * Support campers' social skills, confidence, and independence * Communicate clearly with campers, families, and coworkers * Follow daily schedules and established routines This Job is for You if You: * Enjoy working with elementary-aged children  * Want to build leadership skills and serve as a positive role model * Are patient, dependable, and energetic * Are 18 years or older * Have a high school diploma or equivalent * Have prior experience working with youth (camp or childcare experience preferred) What All Staff Receive: * Competitive pay * Up to 40 hours per week (schedule varies) * Up to 40 hours paid, mandatory trainings (June 15-19, 2026) * CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications provided * Eligibility for a 10-week stay incentive Working Conditions: * Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions including heat in excess of 90F, high humidity, and rain. * Ability to be in water/pool for extended periods of time. * Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time. * Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. * Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, walking, and hiking on uneven surfaces. * Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate. * Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency. * Comfortable administering first aid and exposure to bodily fluids and communicable diseases is possible. Abuse Prevention Responsibilities All employees are expected to maintain boundaries, follow mandated reporting requirements, and uphold our policies and procedures to protect youth and participants. This includes attending required training, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors, and adhering to procedures that minimize risk. Supervisors are also responsible for providing oversight, feedback, and accountability to ensure staff and volunteers follow these standards.
