Description

Unionville College is seeking a reliable and responsible School Bus Driver to join our transportation team. As the School Bus Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting students from our Markham campus to our Stouffville campus on a split shift basis. Along with additional hours for field trips and extra curricular activities. This role requires a Class B or C license and a clear driver abstract to ensure the highest level of safety for our students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Valid Ontario Class B or C driver’s license and Air Brakes Certificate (“Z” endorsement)
· Clear driver’s abstract with no major violations or accidents along with a “letter of experience” showing proof of commercial insurance for minimum 3 years from insurance company
· Proven experience driving 24 + passenger school buses or similar transportation.
· Two or more years of experience working with children.
· Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and professionally with students, parents/guardians, and school staff.
· Ability to maintain composure and make sound decisions in stressful situations.
· Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations pertaining to school bus transportation.
· Ability to follow directions, read maps, and navigate designated routes.
· Physical ability to perform all job duties, including assisting students with boarding and disembarking the bus, as well as securing wheelchair-bound students, if required.
· Flexibility to work a split shift, including morning (6:30am to 9:30am) and afternoon (2:30pm to 6:30pm) hours, with the possibility of additional hours for field trips or extracurricular activities.
· Police Criminal and Vulnerable Sector Screen required.
· Valid Standard First Aid & CPR Level-C is an asset.

Responsibilities

· Safely operate a school bus, adhering to all provincial & local traffic laws and regulations, while ensuring the well-being of students during transportation.
· Maintain a regular and punctual schedule, arriving at the designated bus stop in a timely manner for both morning and afternoon routes.
· Follow assigned routes and designated stops, ensuring all students are picked up and dropped off at the correct locations.
· Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the school bus to ensure it is in proper working order, reporting any issues or concerns to the appropriate personnel.
· Maintain a clean and orderly bus interior, ensuring that all safety equipment is readily accessible and functional at all times.
· Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents/guardians, school staff, and transportation coordinators to address any concerns, inquiries, or changes to transportation arrangements.
· Enforce safety rules and regulations, maintaining discipline and order among students during transit.
· Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies, following established procedures and protocols.
· Adhere to all company policies, as well as local and provincial regulations regarding the operation of a school bus.
