Description

BE AT THE HEART OF SCHOOL LEADERSHIP

We are seeking a first-class, forward-thinking School Business Manager to join our senior leadership team. This is a rare opportunity to play a central role in the future of our school, as our long-serving and highly respected current Business Manager prepares for retirement at the end of this academic year.
We’re looking for someone who is not only professionally accomplished but also passionate, energetic, and committed to excellence. You’ll need to be dynamic, ambitious, and organised—with a firm-but-fair approach and the ability to lead with integrity and vision.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We welcome applications from:

  • Experienced School Business Managers looking for a new challenge.
  • Professionals from related sectors (e.g., finance, operations, project management, HR, or education leadership) who can bring strong transferable skills and a passion for making a difference in education.

Above all, you will be a resilient, committed, and solutions-focused leader with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, ready to contribute to the success of our whole school community.

Responsibilities

As School Business Manager, you’ll play a critical leadership role across the entire school operation. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Leading all business and administrative operations in line with the school’s vision and strategic plan.
  • Finance & Budgeting: Managing the school’s finances, including budget planning, monitoring, forecasting, and reporting—ensuring value for money and financial sustainability.
  • Human Resources: Supporting staff recruitment, retention, and development, in line with best HR practice and employment legislation.
  • Facilities Management: Overseeing the school site, premises, and contracts—ensuring safety, compliance, and long-term planning for improvements and efficiency.
  • Governance: Acting as Clerk to the Governing Body, ensuring strong support and robust governance procedures.
  • Compliance & Risk: Taking the lead on Health & Safety, GDPR, data protection, and risk assessments, embedding a culture of accountability and safety.
  • Project & Systems Management: Leading on project planning, MIS systems, asset management, and income generation, including fundraising and lettings.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Working closely with the Headteacher, the Local Authority, and external partners to develop and maintain effective systems and partnerships.
