THE OPPORTUNITY                                    (POSITION OVERVIEW) Reporting to the Site Director, the School Counselor will be responsible for providing support and direction to learners to help them reach their social, academic, emotional and physical potential. The School Counselor will be responsible for guidance counseling including transition planning and preparing learners for post-secondary success. WHAT YOU WILL DO                                    (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES) * Understand school graduation requirements and parallel entrance requirements for post-secondary institutions. * Establish guidance programs at the school level that provide learner preparation for post-high school options including college, career technical education, regional occupational programs, military careers, apprenticeships and other careers.  * Evaluate on a continuous basis the guidance programs being delivered and make or suggest needed modifications. * Help learners become aware of all phases of post-secondary school options. * Be knowledgeable on concurrent enrollment options. * Sign concurrent enrollment forms for learners as needed. * Sign and create work permits for learners as needed. * Organize and maintain college and career catalogs, brochures, handbooks, and other appropriate resource materials. * Coordinate and implement dissemination of information to learners, parents, and community members pertaining to the college admissions process. * Maintain learner records regarding post-secondary plans. * Help learners gain an awareness of interests and abilities. * Facilitate learners’ understanding of test construction and help learners and families interpret educational test data.  * Coordinate field trips to college campuses and visits by college representatives. * Coordinate administration of PSAT, SAT I and II, and ACT tests. * Coordinate and administer school and community scholarships. * Collaborate with the school and local community in scholarship fundraising efforts. * Facilitate family workshops and assistance in the processing of learners forms and applications for financial aid. * Work closely with the Registrar on receiving, entering and sending transcripts. * Maintain professional competence through participation in professional development activities provided by the school and self-selected professional growth activities. * Maintain and add new courses to the course catalog in Pathways. * Submit new courses to UC Doorways when applicable. * Regularly review 4 year plans to ensure learners are on track to graduate on time. * Create resource materials and timelines of important high school milestones to educate families/stakeholders. * Host informative webinars and/or workshops as needed. * Work closely with the high school investment team (adjunct team) to continuously develop the high school program. Delegate tasks as needed. * Provide liaison services between colleges, local businesses, counseling and community service agencies and the school to coordinate services provided to students and parents. * Conduct large and small group seminars for learners, parents and staff on information needed for preparing students for entry into the post-high school opportunities. * Conduct individual and/or group guidance activities for students and parents in the areas of academic, career and personal/social guidance. * Provide crisis counseling on an as-needed basis.
