Description Job Title: School Nurse Department: Student Services Position Type: Full-Time Reports To: Director of Student Services Position Summary The School Nurse at Lycée Français International de la Louisiane (LFI) is a vital member of the Student Services team and plays a critical role in promoting student health, safety, access to care, and readiness to learn. The School Nurse provides comprehensive school health services aligned with federal and state regulations, professional nursing standards, and the mission of LFI as a French immersion public charter school serving diverse learners. The School Nurse supports individual student health needs, contributes to school-wide wellness and prevention efforts, and collaborates with families, educators, and community partners to remove health-related barriers to learning. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Health Services & Student Care Provide nursing assessments and interventions for students who are ill or injured during the school day Administer medications and health procedures in accordance with physician orders, school protocols, and Louisiana law Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Health Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Care Plans (ECPs) for students with medical needs Support students with chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizure disorders, allergies) to ensure safe participation in instructional and extracurricular activities Responsibility for stocking and maintaining emergency medications and related protocols (i.e. epinephrine & use protocol, EMS activation protocol, etc) Medication Management & Staff Training Train school staff annually and as needed on medication management and administration, including safe storage, documentation, emergency procedures, and delegation, in compliance with the Louisiana Nurse Practice Act and school policy Ensure all medication administration practices and documentation meet state, federal, and school-based requirements Provide guidance and oversight to designated staff involved in student health procedures Screenings, Prevention & Wellness Coordinate and conduct required health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis, and other state-mandated screenings) Maintain follow-up procedures and referrals for students who do not pass screenings Provide training to staff on communicable diseases, including prevention, identification, reporting procedures, and response protocols Educate students on the importance of hygiene and healthy practices (e.g., handwashing, respiratory etiquette, illness prevention) in developmentally appropriate ways Participate in the School Wellness Team and contribute to school-wide health promotion initiatives Immunizations & State Reporting Monitor and ensure student compliance with Louisiana immunization requirements Submit immunization updates to the Louisiana Department of Health through the LINKs system Add and maintain students in the school’s LINKs platform, ensuring accurate enrollment, immunization records, and reporting Communicate immunization requirements and follow-up needs to families in a timely and culturally responsive manner Medicaid School-Based Services Submit daily Medicaid billing for eligible school-based health services in accordance with Louisiana Medicaid School-Based Services requirements Ensure full compliance with documentation, service logging, timelines, and procedural safeguards required for Medicaid reimbursement Collaborate with Student Services leadership to maintain audit-ready Medicaid records and support state or federal monitoring Collaboration & Case Management Collaborate with families, educators, administrators, and Student Services staff to support student health and access to instruction Participate in IEP, Section 504, School Building Level Committee (SBLC), and Student Support Team meetings as appropriate Serve as a liaison between the school, families, healthcare providers, and community health agencies Support the development and implementation of health-related accommodations and services Compliance, Documentation & Accountability Maintain accurate, confidential student health records in compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, IDEA, Section 504, and Louisiana regulations Maintain cumulative health records and required reports in accordance with state and federal timelines Maintain current knowledge of laws and regulations related to school health services, students with disabilities, and public health requirements Participate in the development and review of school health policies and procedures Responsibility for leading emergency medical responses, including activation of EMS and coordination during on-campus emergencies Responsibility for maintaining medical supplies, equipment, and nursing office space to ensure safety, readiness, and compliance Requirements Required Qualifications Current, Louisiana Registered Nurse (RN) license CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain) Experience working with children in a school, pediatric, or community health setting Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills Demonstrated commitment to student-centered, inclusive, and equitable practices Reliable personal transportation and ability to travel between school sites as required Preferred Qualifications Prior experience as a school nurse Pediatric or community health nursing experience Experience with School-Based Medicaid billing and compliance Knowledge of Student Information Systems (PowerSchool) Experience supporting students with disabilities and complex medical needs Work Environment & Physical Requirements Ability to move throughout school buildings and campuses Ability to lift up to 10 pounds and perform routine nursing tasks Ability to
